I guess the difference in memory really shows at stupendously high resolutions! For comparison when my GTX 670 SLI was in operation (one dead and in RMA hell!) it gave a solid 60FPS in BF3 with VSync on at a resolution of 2560 by 1440 with everything maxed out! Anything beyond that resolution and I'd imagine the 2GB would be a limiting factor.
yeah not really an everyday rez for most Is the 7950 still a better buy now with the new drivers @ 2560 x 1440? What happened to nVidia's 15% boost with new drivers to close the gap AMD got with 12.11? I haven't seen anything on it since the initial news on it. Interesting thing about the nvidia cards 'feeling' smoother than AMD cards even with lower fraps. I wonder if that can be quantified? Bah, you getting the 670 back anytime soon?
Not really sure anyone gaming at that Rez would not have 4gb cards, and 3 of them if they wanted everything on.
Aye there is that, I wonder what would help the most though, 3GB/4Gb on every card vs 256/384 bit bus.
I game at 1440 with a 1.5 GB 580 BF3 on ultra no issues. Not a fan of HABO though so I stepped that down 1 as glare and reflections are a pain especially with the power that is the U2711 back light.
its 3 27inch monitors for that rez is it not? if you stick to dell as i would your looking at a minimum of £2100 just on monitors crazy really. I have 1 and Sli 680s and thats about the limits of my budget. Buying another 2 £700 monitors just seems a bit unrealistic at this time, maybe if prices come down it would be a tempting idea.
Been tested as faulty so I'm looking at just under a month to get a replacement. The GTX 670 is very impressive in an SLI configuration. Even The Witcher 2 is playable with Uber Sampling enabled. Frame rate is not high but it is smooth! Mainly wanted GTX 670 SLI for BF3 which is solid, like I mentioned.
3 1080p screens for 5760x1080 which is why it's a quite popular resolution, even with IPS you can do that setup for <£400. Also, not sure where you're getting U2711s from if they cost you £700, more like £500 now. That's before you get to the UK-supported Hazro and DGM 27" 1440p IPS screens (~£300). Considering the cost of SLI GTX680s (~£700 at today's prices, ~£800 at launch) vs 7950 CF (~£450-500, or £550-600 at launch) and there's a £200 price advantage to AMD, which means GTX680 SLI + one of your £700 monitors costs the same as 3 DGM or Hazros and 7950 CF (though 7680x1600 would be way too much for them...). Bare in mind that 5760x1080 (6220800) is only about 1.5x the resolution of 2560x1600 (4096000 pixels) which means that this test is also somewhat relevant for memory demanding games at that resolution.
