Was sitting around in my living room a few days ago.. and was pondering about a great unrest ive had for awhile.. You know... the feeling that something aint right, or needs to be done, then again.. ive had this feeling before.. And yes... its the casemod crawing that has reappeared, so i guess its time to get back to basics again, getting rid of ALL previous hardware, and going for a fresh start for once. The modding scene seems to be evolving these days, alot of truly great mods around now, and i mean truly GREAT, how can i possibly sit down and just watch? so much great inspiration and it would be nice to join up in the modding scene again, its been way to long allready 0.o the consept's of this build is still just theoretical, but will get on with a 3d modell tomorrow, or atleast start with the sketches ^^ However... some ideas and requirements for this build is more or less ready : Current status image The build : * NO more then 20db from anything in this build * 1 SOLID gaming rig * 1 SOLID fileserver * Watercooling for GPU/CPU/Chipset * Custom watertank? * Solid alu this time around, will try and stay away from hollow profiles * based around two or three modules * more attention to details 0.o The Hardware Gaming rig Mobo: MSI 790FX-GD70 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 GFX: AMD 5970 - Crossfire Memory: Not decided yet Fileserver Mobo: MSI 790FX-GD70 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 GFX: AMD 5770 Memory: Not decided Storage 2 x HP 300GB SAS 15000rpm 18 x Western digital 2TB SATA2 7200 RPM ^^ Cooling Not really decided on who to go for when it comes to waterblocks or fan's yet 0.o So this is the start, more to come ^^ wish me luck guys, heading into deep water this time around 0.o The sponsors!
Should prolly have made that 20 to get over that 40TB edge, eh? Kinda got tired of the "why do you have so many smaller disks" thing i guess 0.o
I seriously don't want to go into the swamp of 300-jokes, but THIS IS INSANE! Also with all those drives I can promise it's going to make way more than 20 dB.
I'd opt for a NAS as storage-solution tbh. Streaming video is no problem and it can be placed somewhere aroud the house, where the noise of the HDDs is irrelevant. OH, and it doesn't need an additional PC ofc.
Guess its time to release some thoughts and ideas around this upcoming build =) Been working with a prebuild sketch today, not nearly close to be done with em though, and really having some troubles regards to front panel design and some colour choise, but hey, its a start i guess. Feel free to give some advice on the looks of this thing ^^ Should be able to provide some more pics in the next couple of days 0.o
I really love the design you've chosen for the front panels. I can't think of anything to pick apart!
Why not go with an SSD? Are 15K drives not loud? Also, you MUST have a back of steel or a mini-crane. Those thins are HUGE.
Been a keen viewer of bit-tech for a couple of years now but never posted! Now i think its time. Your mods are awesome. 36tb your an f'ing mad man! Can i have the hdds from the previous GeN's?
Further planning Hi again guys, been working with some more modell's and having a troublesome time learning solidworks to build models in Some new criterias has been put in the progress aswell * Top gaming module is gonna be easily removable from the rest, and feature its own waterloop * Two x Danger Den HW Labs 480 GTX radiators in each module * Build a sturdy heatspreader in the frontpanel and hook waterblocks onto it * MAX 25db from the mainrig running at max load, double 4970 cf and Phenom II 965 Anyways, i still wanna be able to have the main gaming rig running at around 25db max, and this should hopefully be able to achieve with two Danger Den HW Labs 480 GTX Radiators and the passive heatspreader in front This should be buildt with 8mm aluminium, aswell as a 8mm backplate on that again, resulting in a massive 1,6cm thick frontpanel, this should be around 5kg of potensial heat absorbant A decission was also made regards to radiators, as long as its possible to fit 480's, then i dont see a reason why not to implement it ^^ Havent really added up the alu frame yet, but its gonna come soon =)
Never stop, uh? How you gonna cool that plethora of storage? Like in 6th Gen? BTW, you say you want to keep noise low, then why 1500 RPM drives and not some nice SSDs? EDIT: why not do the backplate for the front heatspreader in copper? Would help heat dissipation. And remember that more mass in not equal to better cooling!
