    Hi,

    I have 2x EVGA 8800 GTS 512 GFX cards

    512-P3-N841-A3
    512-P3-N841-TR

I just flashed the BIOS on one of the cards to match the other. They are both EVGA but the models are a little different. Now they both have BIOS of 512-P3-N841-A3. I just copied the BIOS it had, and flashed it on to the other.

Now it got me thinking what if
    1. I flash a BIOS of EVGA 8800 GTS 512 SSC (512-P3-N847-AR) on to the GFX cards I have.
    2. Is there any difference in the cards or it's just the BIOS that is loaded on them.
    3. I can never figure out why are the Vendors overclocked editions have such random overclocked setting. overclocked not proportionally relative Core:Memory clocks. How do Vendors (eg XFX, EVGA... ect.) come up with this numbers. (eg. on SSC Edition The Core Clock raised 90Mhz, The RAM Clock raised 20Mhz... wtf)

It seems nobody is able to give me any suggestions. Maybe my question doesn't make sense. Ok I will simplify.

Can I flash my GPU BIOS with EVGA Super Super Clocked Edition Card BIOS and expect it to Run just fine?

it should be ok as long as the overclocked card doesn't have more power circuitry or phases,i think

    That's exactly my question!

Super Super Clocked card and My Stock Card both have same core G92, # of stream Processors, Bus Speed, GRAM, Same everything as far as I can tell. (apart from the Clock Speeds) So DID EVGA add anything to the card before the "Super Super Clocked" it? Or is XFX adding anything to Overclocked cards? Or is it just a matter of what the BIOS setting are?

I think its just the clock speeds that are different, you can even make your own bios with an editor and flash your own clock settings.

I prefer to just use software like evga precision, if it all goes tits up then it just goes back to stock on restart.

They would have tested it to get those settings. It looks like the chips selected are slightly better than the ones selected for the stock cards.

I remember the 8800 gts 320mb fatal1ty edition card, it was pre overclocked with a 650 core and 1000 mhz memory, my 8800 gts would never run at that so it must have been a very rare fast chip.

I have read reviews of pre-overclocked cards artifacting and the reviewer had to use software to turn down the clocks, which I think is a bit naughty, if the card is sold overclocked then it should run like that 24/7 with no probs.

The cards are the same with a different bios.

I had a 8800gts 512 at 730 factory overclocked on the core. nV made sure the venodrs cut back a bit on core speed.

I would test each card before flashing; you should be able to get to about 750 easily; afterthat its going to to have to be a lucky batch.

You might want to try something like rivatuner to underclock your cards on the desktop; they don't have the best energy saving features. Infact if you wan tto avoid flashing you could just set it to OC your cards.

If you want to flash your overclocks to the cards' BIOS, don't use another vendor's BIOS, edit your own with NiBiTor.

I have NibiTor it's really awesome program, because I don't like software overclocking. (I like to live dangerously hehehehe) And I have seen result of software overclocking on this card with stock clocks go way above SSC Edition Core 750Mhz+ GRAM 1000Mhz+ I was just thinking maybe Vendors setting are better and more stable. Just like overclocking CPU and RAM sometimes you get more stability at higher Clocks if the numbers are good and FSB:RAM ratio is good vs little lower clocks with messed up FSB:RAM ratio.

I don't know if there is any kind of ratio in GFX cards, and maybe there is nothing special about vendors clock setting.

Time to get RivaTuner, test it out and flash the BIOS again :)

    Thanks everybody for the input
