The type of CPU you use is pretty much irrelevant to the question of what type of block to use. ProCooling test data can be found here: http://www.procooling.com/index.php?func=articles&disp=131 . ProCooling are the only people I've found to date who are actually doing plausible, repeatable tests on waterblocks (and even that has ground to a halt recently). The Swiftech Storm is a cleaned up version of the Little River Storm G4, so the performance should be somewhere between that of a Storm G4 and Storm G5, both of which are in the ProCooling data set at that link. Reduced delta Ts are better.
Got a Storm G5 here, and it's excellent - came with mounting HW for S775 etc too, so I won't be buying a new block. My dT's are about 7-8'C, provided the weather's not too warm on the day.
Nowadays it might be a D-TeK FuZion but otherwise its a storm. Just make sure you use 1/2" and decent pump though.
TDX is pretty good, and normally easier to get hold of and cheaper than a storm. You can change the accelerator plates too if you want to try and get all you can from it (though I think this voids the warranty).
forget the TDX go with the swiftech apogee v2 or the Dtek which beat it (swifty) hands down in a head to head test on the same rig at the Extreme Systems CES party thbey both beat the tdx
You've got to be very, very careful with head-to-head testing. They usually only do one test of each, and the mounting error can easily be a couple of degrees. To get decent data, you have to mount each block about ten times and run it at the same operating point to get some idea of the mounting error, before testing at a variety of operating points.
Also, it's going to depend on what pump you are using, and for the TDX, what plate you are using. Unless there is a reasonable difference in temperature, you might as well go for personal preference, rather than paying an extra £10+ for the sake of 1 or 2 degrees.
I had original planed to get the swiftech g4 but its hard to find now adays. Id prefere a waterblock without a plexi top as I dont trust them and they wont fit in the mod Im doing. After looking at Dtek Im quite intrested in it and it looks good what do you think?
I was at the event and the blocks were mounted by the designers and remounted a couple of times... i think it was a fair test. edit tdx tested was a personal block no one from Danger Den was there.
