Good evening fine folk of Bit Tech,

I have a significant amount of amazon vouchers to use (£120 :)) and I am planning on using this to upgrade my graphics card in my PC.

this pc isn't my main rig - but I currently use it to go to LANs and play games on my TV... and currently has a 670 in it...

I would like to be able to play games like Fallout 4, GTA5 MTGS 4, on it at 1080 - as such my question is:

    Would I be better off buying a 4gb 960 like the 960 Strix or a 4gb 970 like this 970 Strix

Hi both will be fine for 1080p but if you want the extra grunt go for the 970 I play all them with a 970 and all fine

I'd go for the 970 as you've got the budget already. Always get the fastest card you can afford at the time. :)

Against the flow here, but I'd go for a 960. It's a great card for 1080p, it's £90 or so cheaper, and by the time it needs replaced, you'll get something more powerful than a 970 for the same money as a 960 now.

If you're thinking of going up in resolution to 1440p, then the 970 would be a benefit.

960 is already nearly at the point of been replaced. The none 4gb SKUs are already holding back newer games. ( Mordor and just cause 3 both suffer on 2gb model compared to 4gb model) the 4gb model is only about £45 less than the 970 makes it a lot less enticing purchase.

I'd always say your looking for a 100% performance upgrade and whilst neither card will manage that the 970 is closer to the task.

i have a couple of 680s and the 670 you have is not that much slower than one of them. And I'd not consider the 960 as a upgrade for 1 card.

As others have said buy the best you can afford at the time.

Have you considered AMD's offerings? They have a bang:buck ratio at your budget that Nvidia can't really match.
The 380X sits pretty much between the two Nvidia cards in price and performance.

Is a 960 actually that much faster than a 670? I'd go 970 or something from AMD like a 380X.
