Basically after reading latest articles all over the web about nVidia vs Ati and DX9 I decided after years of being a nVidia fan to give ATI a try. Forget optimizations, if a product is worse then the competitor's they should have just admitted and try to improve instead of faking the numbers. So here's the question: R360 seems like just a higher clocked R350, 400 GPU and 710 RAM or something close to those numbers. Hercules 9800 pro can overclock to 410/730 it seems, so any point to wait a month or just place an order right now? Any opinions on the subject and anyone know if anything else will be introduced in addition to higher frequencies? Thanks...
I'm in a similar boat. I've had driver problems with Ati and am leary of using them, but the current level of Nvidia performance doesn't justify the price. As for me, I'm waiting. A new chip should drop the price of the the current models. I hate to buy a card and then see the price drop a month later because it is no longer the high end.
Personally not worried about that... never can catch up to the price drops.... problem is HalfLife 2 is only 2 weeks away... ATI should announce new cards at the same time, but it will take time for them to get into stores... and will definetly take more time for Hercules to release a card and I like their cards a lot.
I bought a 9800 pro (abiet 2nd hand though) at the beginning of sept. Prices wont come down on the 9800s much at all with the launch of the XT and currently Nvidia drivers are WORSE than ATis (even the new 50.xx's have IQ problems its been said). Ive NEVER had problems with ATi drivers, mebbe im just lucky? Or maybe you are installing them wrongly? Anyhow, the CATs are pretty damn decent now, coupled with something like Rage3d Tweak and your laughin. I dont even need to oc my 9800pro, its more than fast enough for the stuff i throw at it.
I thought HL2 was delayed? That was the main reason for the suggestion to wait, along with what I expect to be a price drop by the time it comes out. Of course it is always cheaper tomorrow and there is always something better coming out next week.
Just to throw my opinion into the mix... I don't think the problem is ATi Drivers, myself... the problem seems to be (and I am speaking from experience here!), with glitchy interfaces to other hardware... I know that I have had problems getting my Radeon to talk properly to my VIA chipset. If you can get a decent, compatible hardware set-up, then the ATI performance is 2nd to none... Javen
Well decided not to wait and the card is being delivered today. Lets see if I have any problems... Thanks for the input everyone...
