    Hi

I am considering my upgrade from a 9800 pro to a new graphics card. i will be either going for a 6600gt or x800xl.

now, what im asking would the upgrade be worth it if i choose the 6600gt from the 9800 pro, or should i go for the x800xl ?

This would be going in the DFI ultra 939 board with a A64 3000 winy/venice
    Thanks

I vote the X800 XL -- from the benchmarks I've seen, it seems pretty on par with a 6800GT, and gives you much more eye candy than that 6600GT will. Plus, I don't think a 9800Pro --> 6600GT will give you the huge performance increase you may expect. As far as futureproofness goes, the X800 XL will last better for longer, but you could always buy another 6600GT and SLi them (if you're getting an SLi board). So, it's basically up to you, what games you play, and what you prefer, but I would go for the X800 XL (I've actually been thinking about using it as a cornerstone for a CPU/mobo/gfx card upgrade :))

I agree ^^. The only other difference is the extra $100.00 US for the X800 XL over the 6600GT. I also tend to like ATI better, so I would go with the X800 XL myself.

The 6600 GT is no competition to the X800 XL - it gives it a run on value for money, but it depends how much you have to spend. The fact that the X800 XL is the price of a 6600 GT and then half as much again means that they are in totally different price brackets.

i went for a 6600GT (pci-e) as it was more than double of what i was originally going to spend :hehe: and god do i notice the difference from intergrated nforce2 jobbie which i use to use on my dads pc :hehe:

i think it just depeneds in you have that extra £60+ to go for it.

The 6600's in SLI will keep up with a 6800GT until you get into higher resolution(1600x1200). That being said, the X800 XL will keep up with a GT pretty much through all the paces, it loses a bit of ground when the res gets higher, but not much. I would say the X800 XL would be your best bet in the ATI range at this point unless you have the cash for the X850 series.

Get X800XL. I am not an ATI fan, but this really is good value for the money. It beats the snot out of the 6600 GT, and pretty much keeps up with the drooled over 6800 GT. I guess ATI is trying to make up for the crap that was the X800 Pro.

Yeah, while I'm no fanboy of either side, from what I've seen the 6600GT beats the 9800pro. A mate of mine has almost exactly the same system as me. Only he has a 9800pro and a 3400+ where I have a 6600GT and a 2800+. My framerates on most games were better than his on the same settings. But another guy at the same LAN has an x800xt pe. He thrashed the shite out of me ;) get the x800xt if you have the cash.
