Looks to be very disappointing in my opinion :(. I mean if you compare it to an 8800GTX, you get fewer ROPs (16 vs 24), a smaller bus size (256bit vs 384Bit), less RAM (512mb vs 768mb), lower pixel fillrate (10.8GPixels/sec vs 13.8GPixels/sec), lower texture fillrate (37.8GTexels/sec vs 38.7GTexels/sec) and less bandwidth (70.4GB/sec vs 86.4GB/sec).

Granted, the clock speeds are higher: 675mhz vs 575mhz GPU, 1100mhz vs 900mhz Mem, 1688mhz vs 1350mhz Shader. But my 8800GTS (G80) will almost do those speeds and scores higher in 3DMark06! I know people keep saying the 9xxx is an evolution rather than the revolution that the 8800 was when it first released but this seems like a step in the wrong direction. It's barely inseperable from a 8800GTS 512MB. To be honest, I think I'd rather have a 8800GTX.

This pic from XS compares the two GTXs:

Been known for a while now that the 9800gtx isnt really the speed jump we hoped for.

Sticking with my speedy 700/2000 gt for a while!

Even my x1900xt has more pixel fillrate than that. of corse my texture fill rate is a 1/3 of that. I don't think i will be changing my card till i need dx10:D

So when is the real "High End" Nvidia card going to be released that will blow the 8800GTX away?

Unfortunately the 9800 GX2 has been delayed again until March 18th.

One of the main reasons for this is the poor performance due to driver issues.
Apparently, its scoring only 14k in 3DMark06 which is significantly less than a 3870X2

btw Rambo... wacht = wait (but your English is 10 times better than my Dutch!! :))

I feel the best investment is the 8800GTX, has been out for blimin ages, yet is still one of the top cards.

Bit of a n00b question here but why are the 9800 models using the G92 core, when the newly released 9600 gt uses g94? Have I missed something?

I think G94 is lower than G92...

Yes. For example, the 8800GTX/Ultra were G80, and the lower cards were higher numbers. It seems a bit odd now I think about it though.

[ ] 9800GTX is an improvement on the last generation.
[ ] AMD/ATi has released a competitive high end card since the X1900XT.
[x] There is a correlation with the above 2 points.

    BONUS:

    [x] DX10 is shite

I'm wondering if Nvidia might be taking their foot off the gas a little here since the competition is either non-existant or so far behind that they're out of sight. Plus I seriously doubt it will be a re-run of the Hare and the Tortoise fable with Nvidia and ATI unless they are going to pull something out of the very depths of the bag of tricks.

So it looks like its Nvidia all the way then - shame, I liked the ATI cards, not sure why but maybe is a case of rooting for the underdog.

i picked up a pair of the cheapest 3870's i could find to use untill a superdooper card came out and as these are getting 16400 on 3dmark 06 it looks as though i will be sticking with these
