Hi there My first hardware failure? When I power up the screen is blank, no monitor input, and the graphics card's fan runs top speed. I removed the PCIe power connector to see if that might make a change but the symptoms are exactly the same, so it's taking all the power it needs from the slot. However, I've recently had to RMA the GTX460 that was to replace the 9800 after high load black outs etc, and I am suspicious of the PSU. Since the swap back these symptoms have occurred a few times, but now it seems permanent, so it could be coincidence that my 2 year old 9800 has chosen to pop its clogs, or a dodgy PSU all along. Should the 9800 be able to display something, even just boot messages or BIOS, without the 8 pin power connector, or does the blank screen prove that it's popped?
Shouldn't it make a loud squealing noise if it's not receiving PCI-E 6/8 pin power? Most Nvidia cards do.
It does seem weird that you have now had problems with two different cards in the same system. Test your 9800GTX+ in a second system to see if gives you the same problem.
Bizarrely, it's working fine now, but following the 4870 upgrade thread and just in case the GTX460 RMA doesn't work out, I've just ordered a Sapphire 5850 from ocuk, £99.98 was just too good to miss!
well i had it on a chair while i was putting the thermaright cooler on and well let's say ass vs stock cooler's dont mix too well you get the jist...
not to worrie im running a gtx 460 1gb now tho my athlon dual core 250 3.0ghz is a far bottleneck im looking for stock cooler so i could use it as physx card but i dont think the power drain is werth it my fraind is after the card but i neeed to find a stock cooler iv got my eye on a 9600gso for physx less power and a much smaller card...
