I was thinking of upgrading my graphics, but will i actually see much ofa difference between these two cards? I really don't want to spend over 200 on a new card. But i'll possiby go up too that amount for one if its worth the upgrade.

Only reason i am doing this is cos i'm selling my 9800XT for £150 which i think seems reasonable considering it cost me 250....

    thanks for help in advance

    Gainward's 6600GT 256MB

Hey! Go on Gainward's 6600GT 256MB!!! As I said here , it's a new version! There weren't any 6600GTs with 256MB, but Gainward did a new one. Unfortuantely, finding this card is uneasy, it's not available in every store.

For ATI Radeon 9800 Pro vs. NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT check here , but remember! In this reviews they used 6600GT with 128MB (the 256MB wasn't available), so if you buy the 256MB that I recommended on, it will rock!

you could also read here: http://bit-tech.net/review/371

slightly more realistic as we've used real-world gaming scenarios rather than a bunch of (relatively useless) timedemos.

thanks Mr Z. I read through all the articles and figured that i'm best off with a 6800GT. It means i won't have to worry about power for some time :D

I was just wondering. Is there a difference between the 6800GT and 6800 ultra bar clock speed? Or are there pipelines etc being blocked? if so...how do i make it into an ultra :D

ohh just looked for myself. apparently it is infact just clock speed thats different....so extra 50mhz and i have an ultra...thats insane...

yeah, although most Ultra's are clocked at 425/1100 :)

Shouldn't be too hard to attain though.

    6800U

If you have enough money and can afford it, I say go with 6800 Ultra...
My friend bought it and it rox!!! In other words, it's a beast! One of the best graphic cards I've ever seen:thumb:

Well i'll water cool the core...only problem is the ramsinks. Should i leave them bare or leave the refernce cooler in.......I have DD maze 4 Block at the minute and it keeps the 9800xt nice and cool. But Will the 6800 ram be a problem without heatsinks?

The Maze4 GPU block won't fit unless it's the new revision with delrin/ acetel top. The coolers on the 6800's are in bits, you can remove the GPU cooler and leave the passive RAM cooling on so no problem there :)
