Hello, I've recently downloaded a game file from the Good Old Games website (Baldurs Gate 2 for the inquizititve) and it came as a bin file. Every other game I've purchased from GOG has come as an .exe file, so all I've had to do is run the program and it installs easily.

Having never used a .bin program before I seem to be having some trouble in looking where to start in extracting the file. I obviously need a program that can extract the file easily but I don't know where I can find a free, easy to use program (this isn't something I'm planning on doing very often so don't really want to pay £50 for a suitable download to play a game that I could have picked up for a tenner otherwise).

All I'm seeking to do is place the game onto my desktop, I'm not particulary bothered about burning it onto a CD. I've heard good things about Nero but don't know if that is just a CD burning program or not.

I'm currently using Win7 so it would have to be compatible with that.

Thanks for any advice it would be much appreciated from a young man trying to find his feet in the murky world of PC ownership.

    Ta.

It could be a cd/dvd image file, is there a .cue file to go with it?

try mounting it with deamon tools, it's free.

There isn't a .cue file to go with it but I have searched the internet to seek out a solution for that, so I should be ok in creating one.

I really just wanted to know of a free way in which to extract the file. I'll check out daemon tools.

    Thanks.

OK, I've downloaded daemon tools (trial edition) and I've created a .cue file by following some instructions I found on a YouTube video. But now what do I do?.

I've enter daemon tools and don't know where to start.

once you have the mount and drive manager open (double click on the icon in the taskbar) you should be able to drag the .bin or .cue file into the top part of the manager. Then double click the new entry you've made to mount it. It should appear in your virtual cd/dvd rom

you dont need a cue file to mount a bin

Right click on deamon tools in the tray and then go to mount image

    Navigate to the Bin file

then goto my computer and use as a standard CD drive

Thanks for all your replies. I seem to be doing it ok and slowly but surely I am learning to do these complicated (for me at least) computer tasks.

For a relative novice like me this is by far the best forum around for offering helpful advice without resorting to talking down to me.

    Thanks for that.
