    Hi guys

I have a small home theater at home and a BenQ W1000+ projector. This projector can be controlled with a RS232 plug. You can turn it on, change settings and turn it off by sending different signals to the RS232 plug.

I want to have my computer fire up the projector whenever I start XBMC, and power down the projector whenever I close XBMC. This would probably be straight forward if not for one thing!

I cannot have an RS232 connection directly between my main pc and the projector. The PC serving up media for the projector is 15 meters away and connected with a very long HDMI cable. I have tried finding 15 meter RS232 cables but those seem very hard to find.

Now, my server is within 5 meters of the projector (on the other side of a wall) and I could pull a RS232 cable to this. The server is on whenever I want to watch media so it should be able to control the projector via RS232. The problem is:

How do I make my media-serving pc send a networked signal to my server, to fire up the projector through the serial connection?

    Best regards - Picarro

I'm guessing the cable would be female to female?

If so, these guys seem to have the length you need.

Oh - many reps for you. My local cable pusher was unable to supply one.

Oh, you're in Denmark didn't spot that when I Googled (I really should look at location before Googling things lol). Not sure if the site I linked to would deliver there. So I'd hold on to that rep until you know where they deliver to.

Edit: Does your local guy have shorter male to female cables? You could put that on the end of a F-F cable to get the length you need.

Just looked it up - it would be cheaper for me to buy it from the UK vs. buying 3, 5 meter cables here in Denmark.

:jawdrop: Seriously? Wow, and I thought the UK was expensive for stuff. I'd say get a shorter cable to your server (if that's cheaper), but I have no idea how that would work unfortunately.
