https://www.osnews.com/story/140047/mozilla-acquires-ad-analytics-company-for-some-reason/ Awhile back mozilla bought a advertising company that had links to former Facebook executives.
Is this why they've changed their terms of use? It's already been amended to the above because it was a wordy confusing mess and it still means needing to trawl their bumph to figure out what it actually means re privacy, which is never a good starting point I see recommendations for Librewolf and Brave now. No idea if they're any good (branches off of FFox and Chrome - is that right?)
Firefox has spoken in the past about having anonymous adverts in their pocket news tab that caused a stink. Google Brave browser shady tactics as the project has been caught out a few times trying to make money of users such as adding referral codes without making it public.
Thanks, I'll give that a watch and maybe have a go with that alongside FFox after I find all of the opt out boxes I can.
hmm was about to give librewolf a try and i have seen ladybird being mentioned as alternative. also i take thunderbird will be having the same issues as Firefox as its owned by mozilla?
I don't know what the actual deal is tbh, their initial release notes had to be reworded and still seem ambiguous but it just sounds like 'we canz sell all your data' now. Whether you can just checkbox out of all that now I'm not sure.
Ladybird was supposed to be the next big thing that's built from the ground up to give browsing back to the user but it all turned into a **** show. It has big financial backing from the founder of github, then there was the controversy that the developer has health and drugs issues then this crazy shizzle happened. https://lunduke.locals.com/post/582...oper-attacked-by-unhinged-dishonest-activists At the current rate of development the first Alpha release of the new ladybird browser is expected in 2026, sigh!
Damn, I got the "UBlock is no longer supported" notification when I opened Chrome this morning. So I went into Manage Extensions and switched it back on That'll only be a temporary reprieve so I guess it's time to move to another browser. I use Firefox on my phone (because of the UBlock support), but it really does seem like there's no "best" alternative, it's just a case of picking your poison in terms of "least worst". I read this blog recently and it sums up a lot of my feelings about Big Tech: https://www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgive-them/
Huh. It hadn't even occurred to me DuckDuckGo have a browser. Anybody (probably @Gareth Halfacree ) used it for any period of time? Seems to be privacy centric.
https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/1j1pq7b/list_of_brave_browser_controversies/ Brave browser is even worse than i first thought for its shady tactics.
I tried Brave for a short while but it gave me the ick with all its associated crypto ********, so I ditched it pronto.
So, basically the upshot of this thread is that there aren't any decent browsers that (a) just work, and (b) don't do shady sh1te. Yay
