Yeah, I got that mail as well, and was quite surprised :)

Lasers would be cool, but they're basically a point to point light. In order to really see them, you'd need to fill you case with smoke. Not easy when you have half a dozen fans in it ;)

Yeah actually the majority of laser units coming out are actually solid beam lasers, which means you cn asee the beam without needing smoke or other jazz. These tend to be rather lethal to the eyes though :worried: SO don't look directly at the origin!

And I mean within the average persons budget, not like those $10,000 units....

dont you guys think that modding a comp now isnt really that WOW anymore?

I went to my local computer store and you can buy a sony computer with a window and blue cathodes. That kinda made me think alittle, if i would mod my comp, everyone would think i bought it and i really didnt do it.

    I hate that :(

yep, but the real "WOW" factor is in the user making yaself a home-made case :) None of that buying a case and modding, actually making themselves a case...

Bonus points for making the case out of anything they find and not some expensive stuff that case manufacturers might buy ;)

    *click*

Make a case out of bones.. Lik emaybe a cow or something.. I would think a human would be a bit on the small side, and hard to come by (well, without breaking any laws anywayz :naughty: )

    That'd be so cool!

No one in their right mind woul ddo that, let alone modders or even normal people!

I'm going to go find me some dead farm animals! I need some bones!

I did think about doing something similar to that, but my electronics skills are on the poor side.

My idea was to basically hook up a few really bright white LEDs, and then in front of that have a carosel (sp?) with different coloured gels in it. Hook the carosel upto a small stepper motor, and hey presto, disco lights in your PC :D

OK so after putting up the post about lasers I've been up all night trying to work of its its possible... damb damb damb...
so does any one knkow of a way to control a laser so it will spell out words?

that way i can mount it on the top of me case and write on the ceiling..

eiter that or write horrible things about people on the wall behind them at the next lan party :p

So can anyone thing of a way of doing it?
i know that most pattern lasers have 2 oscilating mirrows one on the y axis and one on the x axis that turn to deflect the beam to where everit needs to go, but what do i need to make this wite?

    cheers..

    =======
as for the bone pc... use a cows skull there huge inside..

unfortunatly there probably a bit hard to get hold of though as in the uk anyway most cows are killed wil humain killers, or steel bolts though the skull, so the bones are a bit wrecked either way.

Two servo motors and PIC controlling them (more advanced controlling by adding serial connection from PC). Quite easy to do even on to prototyping board.
