Okay, I'm at a standstill on my current mod, and all my hold-ups seem to be electronics related. 1. I've searched through the forums for a couple of days now and haven't been able to find anyone that has hooked up more than one fan to a single control on a fan controller. I have 6 case fans that I want to be able to control from the case connection on my fan controller. Is this possible, or would it not work because of fan size, RPM, etc? 2. I'm as green as they come with electronics, but I have been reading about LED's. I want to replace the two HDD LED's in my case to match my color scheme. My question is this: If I buy two of these and use them to replace this and this, will I be OK (I know I have to switch the connectors)? 3. If I remove some of the excess length from my PSU wires by cutting a section out of the middle and then re-soldering back together, am I risking not sending enough power to my components, or even worse, damaging them? Not by me making a mistake (I understand those risks), but by resistance, current, etc. changing? I've been reading this forum for about a month, and I have to say the members here seem to be some of the most helpful and friendly I've seen, so props to you all! I hope you can help a n00b move in the direction of UltraModder. Thanks in advance, Clanure
1. Depends on the fans power requirements and how much power the fan controller can supply. It will work, as long as the fans are wired up in parallel, but you have to be sure the controller can supply enough juice 2. Depends on the voltage needed. EDIT: looking at the links again, it should work fine, the motherboard headers supply the same for the power and hdd led's. 3. Wont make a difference, as long as the joints are good and insulated of course Oh and welcome to the forums! (not often i gets to say that )
Ok, 1. So how can I tell how much power my fan controller puts out, and how will I know if it will be enough to power all of my fans? Is it a volts thing, or an amps thing? Also, how can I tell how much all of my fans will need? 2. That's kindof what I was thinking/hoping. I'm definately going to move forward on this one. 3. Would it be better to clip the ends, cut to length and then crimp/solder new pins? Or would it not make that much of a difference? Thanks again for the help, Clanure
1. Its down to amps, as with the fans wired up in parallel the voltage supplied will be the same. The controller (assuming its not a home made one) should specify how much power each channel can deal with. Fans usually have the power or amps required printed on the labels. Remember that power=volts*amps, and dont exceed the controllers specs. 3. Wouldnt make much of a difference, but crimping new pins on would look neater
