i spend a good 15 minutes writing a post which i didnt post >_< ive lost heart writing most of it again, but...i need the answers ^_^ lol ok... i have a fan duct with a 120mm fan on the end facing directly over the A64 CPU, it has a good fan grill, but will removing it make it preform better? i have a 512-256-256 mem config goin at PC2700. there all PC3200 sticks. Am i better of having 754 generic RAM with the one stick out? Or buying 512mb high preformance ram? My 6800 has a little heatsink with a small fan, http://www.pcwcomponentcentre.co.uk/invt/pvt40kndf7 Will a NV5 help alot with lowering temps? on the net, some reviews give different results with the NV5 silencer, will i benefit from it? I will be buyin a new PSU soon, and removing it will be more difficult then i first fault, any advice on how to remove it without any hassle? i will not take the mobo out of the case >_< i am kinda overly cautious with things like that. will a micro-fiber cloth be just as good for removing thermal paste? Alaskas-TIM remover is the same as 90% alcohol people use to remove paste and pads? With thermal pads, can i get vicious with a credit card? as long as its plastic, i cant stratch the heatsink? there were a few more questions, but there the main ones ^_^ Thank you for everyone who replies! i really need answers, and will dictate my purchases over the coming weeks. most the stuff, i will buy, from www.vadim.co.uk Kye edit: I have a air duster, which contains propane, and butane. will this damage components inside the comp? It sprays with with the air ^_^
Alright, first off, unless your grill is a wire grill, its probably choking airflow by a fair amount-otherwise, no problems there, and removing it wont help much-if at all. Second, you dont have Dual Channel to run, so taking out the two 256 meg sticks and replacing it with a single 512 stick will allow the memory to run at full speed, improving performance by a fair margin. The GPU heatsink is pointless unless you overclock or are having problems with it as it is. Next, canned air is completely safe to use in a computer case, and wont damage components. As for removing thermal paste, using alchohol and then using a non-static cloth (or letting it air dry) is the best option for removing thermal paste.
