What kinda party do you think he's having...? I would *highly* recommend moving anything that's easily breakable (vases, ornaments, etc) from downstairs to a cupboard or something upstairs.
Personally I'd make sure that the music isn't too loud. I hate those parties where the music is so loud you can't talk to/hear people. Food is not much of an issue. Maybe get a few bags of crisps/sausage rolls/little things to nibble on, but I certainly don't go to a party to eat food and I don't think many people really do! It's all about the drink. Get a couple of casks in. Go down to your local brewery and stick 'em in your cellar to keep chilled. Also get in the After shock and tequila. Shots are a good way to get people together (and drunk). The beer is bound to run out at some point in the night, and girls probably wont drink it, so just get a couple of boxes of cheap wine in. It saves all the hassle of opening bottles and is generally cheaper. Cocktails are good, but only if you can make them. My cocktails normally consist of adding a drop of every spirit available and then topping it up with a little juice. It has some kick and noone really likes it except me :'(. Gardens are good. More space for people to go to, allows you to cool down if it's getting hot etc Barbeques are good but not in this weather (snow last week ffs!) Water is good, but don't buy any, it's expensive... I'm assuming your house has a tap? Def warn your neighbours and even invite them if you get on well At one party I went to a couple of years back the neighbour turned up on th doorstep wielding a sledge hammer, telling us to STFU as his daughter couldn't get to sleep. We were drunk and found it pretty funny (lots of singing and playing of MC Hammer, Hammer time started) but it wasn't a good situation to be in and we all kept quieter from then on! That's about all I can think of atm... Just enjoy it
I went to a house party on friday. It was awesome. It had, a pc in the living room with itunes for people to hook up their iPods to listen to music, lots of booze in the kitchen, food in the fridge, kebab shop next door. Tbh you have to be careful o nwhat type of house party. If it is with a load of people you don't know, you will have to put alot of stuff away. This house party was about 30 people and we all knew each other quite well, so trust was not an issue. Anyway have fun mate and good luck!
Be careful with this whole "removing expensive items" business - I was at a house party when I was 17 where there was £10,000 worth of damage done to the house because all the valuable items were removed, and it got out of hand so people were messing up the floorboards and the walls. I'm sure it won't be like that, but just bear in mind, that if you just clear the house, it makes it seem like people don't have to worry about making a mess. AH
needs for decent apartment/house party beer (lots of it.. typically light beer is more likely to be consumed) 16oz solo cups... you know, the red "party" cups ping pong balls (get a good table for beruit and you can have a good party) deck of cards (drinking games like asshole, fotch, **** the dealer, and kings are classics) but it all depends on the desired results of the party... if you want many drunk people, drinking games are the way to go
Id say dont plan it too much, let it go on its own. But: -Have a PC and your music collection so people can come over and add to it. -Encourage people to bring drink with them then add it to the the collective stash, that way everyone gets a variety and no-one is out of pocket by much. -Foodwise get junk food like crisps, snacks, mini sausage rolls, etc. If there is an all night kebab shop nearby then all the better. -As far as barricading rooms goes this can be a bad idea, as a locked door and drunk people may just end up with a smashed in door or a broken lock, depending on the guests. Lock all your valuable stuff in a drawer/drawers unless you need it for the party, better safe than sorry. -If you think people will be staying the night then put some sort of bowl next to each bed and easy to reach from each sofa/chair, for those who have a little too much. -make sure you allow time to clean up before your parents come home Thats just the view of 1 18 year old, but thats how the best parties seem to be. EDIT: I just thought: -watch out for chavs/others who may try to invade the party -get some strong alcohol for body shots
Best advice for a house party: Make sure you have it at someone elses house Out of all the housepartys ive been too, it seems the organiser is having a crap time running round cleaning up after all the drunks and idiots (me) and just has a **** time... - m@
1) Take the song Chemical Brothers - Under The Influence 2) Set to Repeat 1 3) Turn the volume waaay up
That's happened with my (admittedly small) experience of house parties. Make sure there is enough non-alcoholic beverages, make sure you have enough cups, snack food, bowls of crisps, etc Definately hide all valuables and breakables. Make sure theres at least some seating, so people can sit down and talk. Make sure you have a mop handy (this helps to discourage people from drinking too much, last party I went to one guy was throwing up everywhere and lying there, the host mopped up his sick and then rupped it in his face, needless to say people slowed down after that) Make sure there are equal amounts of each gender, make sure there's a decent sound system. Also make sure you have a couple of big tough people: a)to stop people who may get out of hand b)to stop people (chavs) from trying to gatecrash. Above all, you have to make sure you have fun too. Try and get at least a couple of close friends to stay sober in order to help you, and it will aid you in relaxing and enjoying your own party
If were talking real parties, make a massive barrel of 'punc' or more commonly known as whatever the hell you can ram in it.
What sort of nancy house parties do you people go to? Loads of alcohol, no valuables, thumping load music, plenty of people. That is all you need. Saying that... last house party i had (3 years ago) ended up with a hundred + people, £400 damages, ran out of loo roll!!!, 2 days solid cleaning up, couple of calls from the police and being thrown out of my dads house for a few months while he calmed down. Was so worth it though, you only get one chance for a mega party take it while you can! edit: I advise against inviting the whole of lower sixth and upper sixth and there mates though.
lots of food and drink obviously and if you have a friend that can DJ and bring his gear along then it always adds something special having someone really involved in the music in my opinon Barney
as for music i dont know what you guys listen to over the pond but country drives me up a wall. clasic rock is good (the Scorpions, Def Lepard, Rush, Van Halen) if you want a party that can be heard halfway down the block then crank it, if not then dont. I like the visualizations and projector idea.
From the above sounds like some realy good advice.. mini summary: -move valuble stuff away somewhere -make sure the drink supply doesn't run out but have 2 secret secret DONT TELL ANYONE UNTILL ITS GONE AND DONT KEEP GETTING LITTLE BITS. -have snacky food things like pizza and doritoes are the best. -you want some good music, let people change the tunes, and don't blast it out too loud, it's the most annoying thing when you have to shout in someones ear to try and say hello. DJ would be a reaonably good idea BUT if only if it's a big place open area inside. -cards, poker, drinking games, and tv or something running in the background is a great idea. i can imagine me playing ping pong drunkwould be funny, but it's more than likely you don't have a table. - depending on where you are how close your neighbours are warn them, if you have like a 'patio' or anything then it's a good idea to have a bit of a party going on out there, and best to keep people from going out the front attracking attention and acting like asses. - Smokers should be outside on the 'outside/patio' place smoking if they are smoking. - people, good mix of boys v girls and don't have too many people you don't know very well, but it's ok if theres like some people from 'different groups' and don't know eachother at all. and if theres people you don't trust do things especially so they arn't asses. and remember drunkness brings out the assh*le in some people who are usually fine when sober. -
You need some munchies, last party I went to there was all the stuff to make a sandwich sitting out and I felt better the next morning than I did the last party. Kinda let the party go on its own but dont let it get out of hand, ususally if its a bunch of friends you dont have to worry much. Dont run out of drinks and buy early, the stores around here stop selling the hard stuff at 9 and beer and other lighter drinks at midnight. Try to have some entertainment, we played goldeneye and it gets interesting after a few. And try to keep a even gender balance, you dont want 10 guys all going after 2 girls, its not a good idea. Have fun and dont get busted.
hmmm i disagree... the more girls the better the party... after a party i always talk (to mates that didn't go) about the amount of girls that went (and the standards (of them)). Even if i had fun at a party that was a sausage fest (guys @ loads of them) the gives the reputation as a **** party. On the other hand a party with lots of girls automatically makes it a good one this in turn gives you total respect (Well i would give mine if i turned up to a whole of lots of girls (SINGLE) for that matter) And of course pulling power as you are the host - Girl - "hey! what are you doing get off me" Mate - "oi hes the host" Girl - "you should have said lets see you room then" if only... side note : that was a joke i don't actually dream these things happening... digdigdig not to say that i don't pull (when single) dig
well im a big partier, i usally go to a hotel or my apartment(when the rents arn home) and strip it of everything when i mean everthing i mean it, other then a table, chairs, ect,ect...I lock all keys and valubles locked up in my room so no 1 can drive/steal, then i get my buds(10ish people) to go out and run for things(food, drinks..ect).. A BIG fav at my part of towns are 40's STEELRESERVES lol really cheap and they are 40 oz's fo rlike 2.50 kegs are good but can be a prob bc of getting rid of it the next day(dont want anyone to see it) tell people to bring cd's, no ipods they tend to get stolen and fights are bad 2, if there is kick both there booties and kick them out.. 1 big thing, always stay in controle of it, dont let it go out of hand and if its at a hotel make sure you dont damage or destroy anything or you get sum fines and stuff... Have fun, steveyblack
Some Points: - If you get kegs, try to get a pressurized cooler tap thingie. I borrowed one from the place I bought the kegs for around 20€ when I had my party - greatest thing ever! - If you love your furniture replace it by inflatable furniture for the party! Things will get spilled and/or broken. It is pretty much unavoidable. - Get a projector for displaying visualizations on the wall. - If you like hookah pipes or know people are coming who do, have one set up - they are great fun at a party. - If you know somebody who plays guitar, or do so yourself bring it to the party and play some songs! We had the school's rock band play at my party - you might want to watch out for the neighbours though... - If the weather is good setup a grill and put some hamburgers/steaks/hotdogs on it. Otherwise have some subway sandwiches or pizza. - Play drinking songs and fun music! I can't stress this enough, this really gets the party going! - Always have a couple of garbage bins around in case someone gets totally smashed. - Get enough beer but don't be too enthusiastic with the high % stuff, you don't want everybody passing out on your floor. - Have enough snacks like chips, etc. - Decorate the place a bit. Good luck and have fun!
Party party party Don't forget to has some friends ready to help you out when some idiots decide to have a fight. I hope you don't need them, but if you do you'll be glad they are there.
