The rear wing is in the extended position, does that mean he was going bloody fast? I don't know much about how these veyrons work.

It's the other way around on these I believe. When it goes seiously fast it goes down and the car becomes like a big bulge basically (Or maybe that was when you turn on that second key).

    Ontopic: Bloody moron.

The spoiler being up indicates speeds in excess of 80mph, and AFAIK it's not manually operable like a Boxster's or a Murcielago's air intakes. So perhaps he was speeding, although in a 4WD monster like the Veyron that's not much excuse. Is he still blaming on the low-flying pelican?

Either way he ain't got nothing on this old fool... I mean, one, two crashes on a track, it's all better than the poor thing being shut up in an air-conditioned garage. But TEN? Including an EB110, 50% of the world's Indigos, a DINO, and a YENKO CAMARO?

Somebody needs to take Grandpa's license away.

Iirc the spoiler is up all the time once you go over 80 though, not really sure on that.

What's the real kicker is that he left the engine running for 15 minutes before it died on its own.

I'm sure they'll salvage the car, but the engine will be totally destroyed being forced to run with saltwater in it... So it's another one of these classics ruined. 1 down, 295 to go?

That is heartbreaking to see. I think the spoiler can only be raised/lowered manually and has nothing to do with what speed it is at. I might be wrong but i vaguely remember Clarkson haveing to stop car and press some button on the door sill? to move the spoiler on his way back from France.

That's 'low drag mode' which disables the automatic active aerodynamics. It involves inserting a second key in the door sill and is intended for 'high speed running;' we're talking in excess of 230mph here.

The spoiler deploys at 80-85 otherwise, and I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

If it is then he wasnt driving that fast and the spoiler wasnt raised. Im sure it is the same car though, surely there cant be two people daft enough to drive a Veyron into a lake (even although the cameraman thinks its a lambo) :D

The spoiler probably came up automatically when he stomped on the brakes. Why didn't that occur before? Nurr.

I believe the Veyrons spoiler extends twice at two different speeds if I remember the top gear episode correctly.

Have you tried decyphering the controls of a Model T? Barrelling along at 40mph on the public roads with such an alien way of making it move it wouldn't surprise me if there are a lot of accidents to be had.
