My dad has an old P3 HP laptop with an integrated 10/100 ethernet and a Motorola wireless 54 card. I have a network consisting of a Linksys router with several PCs on it and a Motorola wireless AP/router combo set up as a separate subnet. Connected to the Motorola is an Xbox and a PC. All of these can access the internet.

The laptop fires up. I plug it in with a piece of cat5 to the Linksys, and wirelessly to the motorola. Both cards have an IP address. I can access any computer on my network, but I can't access the internet. I figure it might just be an IE problem, so I try to ping google. Nothing. Well, maybe it's a DNS problem. I find the IP for google and ping that IP. Nothing.

Any ideas? This one really stumped me. Too bad my Net+ was more about memorizing acronyms than troubleshooting problems...

Make sure your Internet settings are referring to the linksys router then, perhaps that's causing a problem.
