This is a bit of an interesting situation and I need some ideas from you kind folks.

Basically, what's happened is that a friend of mine at work tried her very best to organise a grand night out in Birmingham (bless her). She asked me to bring along some friends as well, to make up the numbers and so I did. I rounded up seven of my nearest and dearest, and they we have all been looking forward to this night. My friend had made a deal with a hotel chain to get us cheap hotel rooms, VIP access to this club etc etc. All very swank.

Except it's fallen through... because she didn't get nearly the number of people she needed. Bummer.

So, my friends and I have pooled £175 (which was going to be for the hotel etc) and we've decided to use it and still have a night out, rather than just forget the whole affair.

£175 won't get us hotel rooms (unless we cram seven people into one or two rooms? Is that allowed?) What else could we do with it? I need some ideas!

Who needs a hotel room? Go out to one of the big clubs (Oceana etc) and you can stay up all night.....

Food first in the Mailbox, followed by bars, then clubs... that should see your money disappear nicely. :thumb:

The IBIS in the centre of town (by the Arcadian) is pretty cheap ~ £50 per night per room.

There is a Weatherspoons very near to the centre, which will allow you to ensure that you can at least get a couple of drinks before the money runs out :p

Apart from that, wander round and have fun :D

If someone's got a decently sized house, I'd suggest spending half the money on booze at their place before you head to town. It's much cheaper, and you can put some food on at home. ;)

£175 between 8 people? That's below £22 per person... not nearly enough for a big night out, unless you head to spoons.

I suggest putting half the cash towards booze (get a cask of ale for ~£60 from local brewery and a couple of boxes of cheap wine) and the other half towards meat and have a bbq! Don't forget to play lots of drinking games to make sure you get through the booze (a pack of playing cards and perudo will help with this!)

Failing that, go to the Wellington and blow your cash on some quality beer in there!

    *edit*
If you do get a cask, ask for the beer to be bright, no need to worry about letting it settle then!!

And bloody awful, the beds are shockingly bad.
I stayed their last year, for a conference at the NEC, as everywhere else was sold out and can honestly say I'll never be back.

This year I've booked earlier and got the Ramada.

I suppose it would be ok if just for one night out on the piss.

I'm sorry, dude. Considering the original plan though, I wouldn't have thought it was your kind of thing. Getting mashed up In Gatecrasher? :p Now things have changed you're more than welcome to come along. Although it's still gonna be pretty heavy.

I feel like a bad friend now :(

£175 isn't gonna last an hour between 7 people. I spent £90 on just me and my best mate last saturday....

I'm with the "buy in beer and stay at home" idea - £175 really ain't too much between that number of people.

Either that or see if you can find a bar that'll give you X amount of alcohol for that price (helps to know staff...)

Another vote for staying in. Get some mates to help set up a decent little party room with someone's computer (iTunes party mode or something similar), blow the money on booze (vodka, rum, whisky, beer etc) and food. Get more booze than you think you'll need. Always helps :)

    Can't beat a good house party :)

Haha, some nice ideas. The £175 isn't all-encompassing. It's just what we'd already pooled for a 'feature' for the evening. We were all planning on spending more on drinks and food, but considering that money has been mentally discounted and put to one side for the evening, we just want to do something with it.

On a normal basis, yeah, I'd agree with booze in. Other suggestions have been things like casinos, strip clubs, etc. I'm not totally familiar with Birmingham so I'm not sure what it has to offer.

There's an idea. Take it to a casino and put it all on black (or red) for roulette. You win = Uber night out, you lose = oh well... Party on!

Put all the money into coach fares and on Friday night get the coach up to Scotland, then spend the weekend with no money trying to figure out a way back. Or, go hiking.

Go to Spearmint Rhino's on the Hagley Road. 20 quid for a private dance each which leaves about 2 quid a head for a coke.

At least, I think that's how much it costs, I've never been there, a friend of a friend told me, apparently. I don't even know where the Hagley Road is, or the Spearmint Rhinos opposite the Thistle Hotel on the right hand side as you're heading towards Broad Street. Oh bugger.

Edit: There's an entry charge as well, apparently. I think it's about a tenner.

Here's the idea: 125GBP of booze. 50GBP to empty out the neighbour's house... then make your friend at work drunk and dance for you... :D
