(i wasn't sure which section of the forum i should put this in, so if it's in the wrong place feel free to move it) hey all.. so, i was thinking about sleeving the cables on my power supply so i opened up an old one i had just to take a look inside the old power supply is just an un-branded one i got cheap. this is what i found: i saw this strange blob on one of the components, it looked out of place as it was so unevenly applied.. the first thought that popped into my head was "is that chewing gum??" ...well i squeezed it with some pliers (that's why there is a little bit where it looks squashed in the pic), and it did infact feel like old chewing gum! anyone have any idea what this is? some kind of electrical insulation? some (badly designed) heat spreadding material?.. so anyway, i took it off: its not even really covering anything xD after taking it off i powered up the power supply and it worked fine without it after i removed it i took a closer look to see if i could figure out what it actually was: ...i couldn't help but notice a fait smell of mint.
heard stories of carbonised rats in the aux power supply for C-130s but this is actually a little gross
First you need to determine if it is mint flavoured or not. This can easily be done by working up a small amount of saliva and then gently but thoroughly chewing on the alledged piece of chewing gum. Roll the piece of gum in the mucus to extract the flavour. The resulting flavour imputed phlem should tell you the flavour. If it is indeed mint you need to replace the gum ASAP. Mint is known to have a revitalising effect. Since you've removed it power supply failure is imminent.
What are the chances of somebody opening up a PSU which has chewing gum stuck to it? It must be INCREDIBLY slim! What a find!
QC (epic) FAIL - I find that quite hard to believe that chewing gum should be allowed to get into a PSU which is going to be sold on.What on earth goes on at that particular factory?
