For the past months, my friend Ida and I have been making a movie. Actually, we started planning it last october/november, and finished it just now.
It has some logical flaws in it (comment upon them if you notice them). Hopefully the plot is understandable enough.

This is the first movie I've made where all the sounds (except speech) are recorded and added afterwards (i.e. all footsteps and doors opening are recorded separate from the film itself, except when the lead character walks through the lobby of the school)

One of the sentences said by the teacher in this film, is actually written by Penski. I had a thread a while ago where I asked you to read the script, and Penski suggested an improvement.

A Product of Time (wmv, 27MB)

Cannot get it to play the full movie  I have tried Windows Media player and BS Player but the film stops at the part when the girl looks at the laptop. :wallbash:

:duh: Just notice i never downloaded the full movie...downloading now

Very good mate. I could tell that the sound fx for the foot steps where added...or maybe that was just because you mentioned it. Good little story line though...I want a sequel.

The first text needs to be on a few seconds longer imo.

    Any info on filters/software/hardware used?

Time is a product of people - the obsession of creating order to create logical predictions about the future, to go against natures entropy where everything turns to disorder.

EDIT: OOoo i like the "if there were no people there would be no time as we know it" bit as she's running down the hall, very good.

Im not sure if its the camera, my download or your encoding but its badily interlaced :/ perhaps try xvid/mpeg2 instead of wmv?

The film is shot with a standard MiniDV camera, using tripods and occasionally a steady-cam rig that I built.
Captured analoguely with a Pinnacle DC10 plus.
Edited in Premiere, where I altered tones to increase contrast. The blue tint comes from increasing the intensity of the blue channel (Using Quicktime effects in Premiere)

Ah right, so its just a channel play.

Your own custom steady cam? Any pics? Sounds sweet.

Perhaps needs a semi-still "open shot" when she gets into the larger area after running down the halls to emphasise the lack of people and sparceness.

Did you record all the extra sounds yourself then?

edit: very good in all, i enjoyed it :)

The steady cam thing isn't that impressive, it's just a tripod head mounted on a steel rod with weights on the bottom. The weights are water bottles, so that you can adjust the weight depending on which camera you use, which can be practical.
The extra sounds were recorded by me (and performed by my friend Ida) just a week ago. They are recorded in (approximately) the same locations where the movie was shot.

Thanks, John Cena :) Um, about you meeting her.. we'll see :worried:

I know it looks badly interlaced. It's a bit worse in the wmv version, but because I used the wrong encoding for the raw film early in the post production process, it cannot be entirely deinterlaced. :sigh:
I've learned though, and will not do the same mistake in the future.

You can get de-interlacers in some encoding programs.. svcd ones, but im not sure how effective they are and they tend to blur :/

When I exported to Avi in Premiere, I checked the box for deinterlacing. However, this interlacing problem is "hard coded" into the film, because I saved the original film once, then imported it back into Premiere to do some adjustments.

Ahh I like the choice of music throughout the whole film, introductoin, middle and ending etc.

The camera stuff was pretty good but like dom_ said except for the upclose zooming on the girl's face, but other than that it was a quality production, good on you mate

    I liked it.

    Criticisms:
    • I felt the intro and end credits were too long. Combined they seemed to take up nearly as long as your content.
    • The clarity of the sound could have been better, specifically the teacher's voice seemed too distant.
    • The sounds of her footfalls when starting to run in the hall did not seem to match her pace.
    • I wanted to hear her ask herself "What the hell is going on?" as she started freaking out.

Very nicely done. I know how much work is involved in something like that even though the end product seams so short. Keep up the good work.

    Hello,

I first want to congratulate you, its a very nice movie. Considering its your first, or one of your first.

As other sed, the credits at the end are wayyyyy to long.
    Its a nice little short-film.

It could easily be used in some sort of serie (Boy meets world, family house, sister sister, grounded for life, etc..) and I don't mean that in a bad way.

Its really nice, and it shows the potential of the average comedy serie. so thats quite impressive for starting. It could easily be used in some serie. Just a short daydream, telling the viewer what this episode will be about.

As has been sed before. the part where she walks in the halway, and you can hear the teacher saying 'if there were no people there would be no time as we know it' again. Gives it a really professional feel.

Really really really really nice, you should be very very proud!

    Good luck !
    L
