adsl comes down the same 2 wires as the phone just on a different frequency , which is why u need a micro filter to split them up

you can run ADSL without microfilters, but I doubt the standard jack that comes with most modems/routers will fit into the standard socket - hence you will need a new socket. With this method though you wont be able to use the phone at the same time, so as said above you need microfilters on every phone in the house + one for the router/modem itself.

without microfilters u will find if u pick up the phone you will hear a high pitched squeeling. If you try to make a call chances are it will knock your inet connection off. TBH u need the filters :)

The filters just eleminate the noise on the line and that will be the first question they will ask after they ask is the modem on if you have support issues....

All the adsl uses is the normal RJ-11 phone line....Nothing special is needed on the line just a working dialtone....

Im not sure what you mean by seperating them from a "normal phoneline"

Try this site if your not quite sure how dsl works...

No - you only need them on the extensions that have a phone / Adsl modem plugged into it. Any other socket that's not being used can be left as is.

dont plug it into the line that goes directly into the modem though...

you need one on each jack/line that has a phone / fax on it...*except the one that goes to the modem*

I'm surprised more people just don't split the line from the master socket. Is it hard to do yourself?

Suppose you could if you really wanted to but what if you wanted to move the modem to a different room?

you need a microfilter on every phone socket that a phone/fax is connected to. If nothing is connected to that socket then it does not need a microfilter. My netgear modem comes with its own external microfilter that you have to plug the modem into.

I'm not convinced that what you're suggesting is the case for the UK. Absolutly no idea what it's like in Israel.

Nice choice - I'm with Nildram for ADSL too ;)

Once you place your ADSL order with Nildram:
    1. They give your phone number to BT, and have them perform a line test to check for suitibility.
    2. Asuming that your line has been deemed suitable (ie, good for distance and/or noise, etc..) Nildram will shove you into the queue for BT to enable ADSL lines.
    3. About 5 working days later, a BT engineer who reports to your local exchange will transfer the exchange end of your phone line from a regular PSTN line to a rack holding the ADSL hubbub.
    4. So long as everything checks out after fiddling around in the exchange, your line should then be alive etc - and your path to broadband computing will be complete.
That's asuming that you've got your DSL modem/rotuer purchased and set up already - together with a bunch of microfilters to cap off the whole affair.

You might find this of interest.

thanks moose, distance shouldnt be a factor as i aint far away from the exchange at all, so thats all good. as for line quality, i couldn't tell you about that,

i'll let you hear a boost though, the folks have just started getting into computers and the net, they promised they would pay for everything needed to set up broadband then go halfs each month, boost huh :D
