I'm really surprised that Gigabyte haven't taken a leaf out of any other maunfacturers book and made different coloured boards. I mean, their boards are great, but they have no sense of style, especially as more and more people have case windows now.
Gigabyte wether they like it or not now have a style that everyone reconises, and when at trade stands or in shops people know its a gigabyte board. Deep down we all know there stupidly fantastic motherboards, they just never die. I love DFI's colours of orange/yellow on a Black PCB, cant wait until i can upgrade again but i am stopping myself for 2 years so at least i will see a huge speed increase. lol!
To the guy who made that.. erhh.. "mod": on a more serious note. I really like the idea, because white mobo's are sexy.. we need more of 'em! just to bad i didn't turn out too well (IMO)
Is it me, or did he just cake it with white paint, then sharpie the colours on? cause that's what it damned well looks like. Joe
I don't think it would work that well actually, most modern boards are 4 or 6 layers, at least one layer will be a ground plane, a solid (or almost solid) layer of copper covering the entire board so you wouldn't be able to see through it. A ground plane is essential for high speed signals. Many boards also have a supply plane though this is more broken up because of different voltages. Moriquendi
nice idea, kudo's for trying, but i agree the results are a bit dissapointing. about a clear motherboard. those planes, they will be copper? shiny, beautifull copper? a clear motherboard with every heatsink changed into a copper one copper, a nice copper-topped waterblock... would be jummy jummy in a steampunk/retro mod.... ah... i love steampunk.
I think if the board was left plain but a few of the parts were UV panted on top the it might have come out better but not the blizzard it is now...
I saw this few mins ago and it reminded me this topic: Looks like a REAL "black edition" or "black series" motherboard except for some components like caps, those three gray slots and the damn rounded power/reset switches.
I think that the gray adds a much needed change in tone for that board. If it was completely black, then it wouldn't look good cause there wouldn't be much to look at. The grey helps to exaggerate the darkness of the board. EDIT: Again... why don't Gigabyte ever look at things like these? Should I just send them an email with a link to an ultra high resolution of this image and see if they get the message?
I got it a little bigger! And about the gray slots it's not the problem or a problem but the rouded buttons, couldn't they make them squared.
If the fiberglass was all clear on the mobo, and only the copper plate showed, wouldn't that still look badass? A shiny, copper colored mobo? Steampunk mods would have a heyday.
