Hi, my friend recently upgraded to his sandy bridge system and took over his Abit Airpace PCI-Ex1 card. He's having problems getting it to power up it seems. The system is working fine apart from the Abit.

His new motherboard is the Asus P8P67 Pro, the problem is he puts the card it, turns on the computer and it powers off in about 5 seconds. When he gets into windows it doesn't appear in the device manager. He has tried it in all the different PCI-E slots including all three of his x16 slots and it never works. He currently has it in his second PCI-Ex16 slot which is confirmed working because his GPU works in the second slot. I told him to scan for hardware changes in device manager, that doesn't make it appear either.

He bought a new one in case it was bust but it is doing the same thing as the old one, both are in working order because they work with his old motherboard. Any help is much appreciated, I'd like to get this fixed, thanks.:thumb:

EDIT: His PSU is a Corsair HX450 and his system would only use about 250-300w altogether so it shouldn't be a lack of power issue.

Not being detected in windows sounds to me like not all the motherboard drivers have been loaded. Of course that may not be it, but I've had that very issue before, and reapplying all the latest drivers without any extra interface cards installed did the trick.

Powering itself off, however, is a little odd. Used to imply a hardware address conflict, DMA issue. Has the bios been set for a plug & play OS?

I've looked through his manual 3 times and can not see any plug & play option which seems very strange to me, do asus call it anything else? You can get the manual here if you wish to see. As for the first option I'll get to do it ASAP.

EDIT: I didn't think of it being a DMA issue, not had much experience of them but is there a way to find out what address could be conflicting?

I have the Atheros drivers, but I cannot do anything because it is not lighting up at the back and doesnt recognise in device manager. I did get it to recognise in my other ASROCK K10N78 motherboard but I had to force blue screen, in other words I installed the drivers on the cd and then it blue screened then when the pc restarted it was in the device manager then i installed the atheros drivers manually on that board.

If it's not powering up then either the slot is faulty or the card's faulty. Software's no use if there's no power. :p

The slot isn't faulty becuase I put my graphics card in the x16 slot I was using at the time and it worked perfectly. The wireless card itself is new. I heard from someone it could be a DMA conflict does anyone have any ideas how you go about looking into that.

Yeah like he said it powers up in his old mobo and the slots work fine with his GPU.

I had one of these with an AB9 Abit board, I stopped using it when I went from XP to Vista 64 as there were no Drivers for 64. If there are now, also consider third party drivers by enthusiasts, I know someone had to use one to get theirs to work.

I got him to place it in the third PCI-Ex16 slot which does have a mode option in the bios, it was set at x1 and didn't work.

Just thought i'd say managed to get my Abit Airspace working again it was the Ethernet Controller, so just manually looked up the folder to install, then installed Atheros drivers.
