Hi guys, Ive recently upgraded my g/fs machine to 1GB ram (she needs it for playing planetside) and now when ever I play games it tends to randomly crash/hang.

    I'm using 3x DDR 266 modules (2 x 256 1 x 512) all are generic memory.

When I run with just the 512 the system is perfect, each 256 works ok by itself and the 2 x 256's work ok together, and any 256 + the 512 works fine, but as soon as I run with 3 modules games etc start to crash and do weird things.

I've re-seated the ram multiple times and with each confuguration run MEMTEST86 and turned up with no errors.

I've also had to back date the graphics drivers from teh catalyst 3.8's to the 3.7's because I thought this may have been causing the problems but this is all to no avail.

I've of course also made sure the ram is seated perfectly.

Any thing that I have missed?
The only thing I can think of is a dodgy 3rd DDR slot or the board may not take 3 modules unbuffered (but im sure it takes 2GB unbuffered)

I've tried google but the only problems that I could find running with 1GB ram was due to faulty/incorrectly seated modules.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers guys! :D

after reading through your whole post a few times, this is what I was thinking possibly... have you tried running just a single module in all of the DIMM slots, to try and see whether it's a problem with one of the DIMM slots. I'm trying to think of other possiblities for a problem like this. Try running the DIMMs in different configurations, with 512 in each of the DIMM slots, seeing if the problem is still the same.

I'll have another think on it though

Thanks for the reply, sorry for the fact its slightly incoheirent (sp?)
I know what I mean but I often find it hard to explain things to others.

Sadly the board requires atleast one module to be in the first slot on the board other wise it comes up stating its in the wrong slot and will not boot further, I also figured I can but the ram in any slots after that allowing me to try different module/slot configurations and sadly the same thing happens.

I'm still looking for any further suggetions/resoloutions to this as I really think it should work but untill then its not running 768MB and I now have 1.25GB ram :)

    cheers for the help :D
