Lets not relate this to the other shaving post :D Well anyway, at the young age of 13, I have alot of hair on my upper lip. I dont like facial hair at all, its really odd to me. Besides that, Id look like a hick with a mustach. So far Ive been using razors that I get from the pharmacy, but I dislike them; razors cut, even thought it doesnt happen often. It just kinda burns to shave with a razor, so I was thinking of buying a electric shaver. My dad got a great Norelco for $40 odd. Do you guys suggest asking him to buy me one? I would feel kinda weird to ask my dad. What do you all suggest?

you do not have hair on your lip I have seen you, well another yuor 13 you shouldnt have hair there, but if you absolutly have to just go and get a electric shaver. Who sais you have to ask. Besides you can order them off the web. And why not try some facial hair you might like it.

If you can't talk about shaving with your Dad then it'd be a real shame - it's one of those father-son things that you're gonna have to do eventually. I don't know him but I'm sure he'd be glad to offer advice.

And no, don't keep the bumfluff, it'll make you look furry like bloodcar ;)

I don't see whats embarassing about shaving? As soon as i decided i wanted to shave (i didn't start till like 15.. and only now it's once a week.. i'm 18) i popped down to Superdrug and bought myself a Mach3 and some Nivia Gel Foam.. and i still use that combination today :D

although.. if i had the cash i'd buy myself a nice electric one as razor shaving does irritate my skin alot.

talk to your dad, just be like "dad, i need a shaver"
thats what i did and he thought it was pretty cool, and we went out and got a shaver

then go to a shaver store and ask them what theyd recommend there, theres a load of shavers that are really good, but you definitely dont want to be using them, you have to be careful what you buy

i got a new one a few months ago, that i thoroughly recommend, but if you have a baby soft face such as yourself it would tear into you and pop out the back of your head, which would just make a mess really :dremel:

im afflicted with horribly evil facial hair, and require a run through with a hedge trimmer every morning to keep from looking like a criminal (although i frequently cant be bothered). shaving sucks, full stop :grr:

Kinda sounds like my experiance with my dad, I started pretty young I think I was about 14 or so. My advice is to buy a quality shaver none of these "10 for a pound disposables" because they're rubbish IMO and use a pre-shave scrub, that softens the hair and prepares your skin for shaving good stuff if your skins new to the whole shaving thing. And ALWAYS use some sort of aftershave I dont mean the smelly stuff just some good old nivia shaving balm because that stops you getting one of those unsightly shaving rash's, by disinfecting your skin and closing the pores that the shaving foam opens as its a disinfectant... expect some pain!! well at first anyway! Welcome to manhood :S

Yes. Yes it does. unfortunately, mine goes curley if I let it go to long, which is rather disheartening; then again, I'm too damn lazy to care whether I shave either way

I have to trim mine with electric clippers (without a guard) but shave once every fortnight (mach3 + gillette gel foam). My hair is incredibly thick (i'm not talking about the amount of hair, just the actual thickness of the hairs themselves) and shaving regularly means I get ingrowing hairs (painful) which wind up infected and looking like really bad spots. :blah:

But yeah, it'll feel like it's burning when you start shaving because you're essentially taking a layer of skin off as well as the hair with the razor, but your skin soon gets used to it and you won't even notice after a while.

Talk to your dad about it, you'll will sooner or later anyway :thumb:

Agree with Penski... beards are awesome. My chin fluff is 3 inches long, and the jawline is a nice fuzz.

As for beards, in the winter, Im going to grow it out. In the summer it goes off. If I grow plenty in the winter, Im going to keep it REALLY long, Osama style, for a week or so.

Im still disputing whether I should ask him now, or in the summer or something. Anyone see the Gillete M3, the electric razor? Im thinking about buying that with some blades. I think Im going to keep up blade shaving for another month or two. Any reccomendations for blades? Any products for shaving prep?

/me slaps Kameleon with a giant trout

at the age of 13, it might seems like alot of hair on your lip, but in actuality it's nowhere near the amount it will be by the time you're 18 or 21. a mach 3 works wonders but if a regular razor irritates your skin, don't go with an electric one. for one thing, they simply do not have as close of a cut because they reliy on pulling the hair up and then cutting it. it's SUPPOSED to cut the hair beneath the skin but in fact it doesn't. when i used to shave daily, my norelco would leave my face feeling stubbly in 2 hours, yet with my mach 3, it would take 6-7 hours to start feeling the hair again. also, shave AFTER you shower. this will make your hair softer then before, plus if you take hot showers, that causes the pores to open up more. if you shave before your shower, you're more likely to feel the hair after you get out.

if you DO happen to get an electric shaver, i'll reccomend the norelco that "dispenses goo." i have it and it is a fair shaver, however i prefer my bruan that cleans itself after i shave. personally, i can't be assed to shaved nowadays, i simply hate doing it. i'll break out the trimmers once my beard gets about 3 inches long (around once a month) and trim it down fairly close (about the length that penski's is).

also, if you want a real beard, shave daily for a year or so, then it will grow in thicker then it is now. otherwise it'll be thin and not look very well at all.

I know what alot and a little hair is, I understand. Now I dont have much, but it usually gets to the point in winter were I look like some redneck; aint cool. The only times the reg. razor hurts is when I carelessy drag the razor, which I do by accident. I think the electric m3 would be decent, but $13 o_O FFS the catridges are $18. Nice one. Can anyone recc. a other good shaver? My brother has a nice bottle of Vera Wang aftershave balm he doesnt use, its a might shame too, he spent $57 on it. Should I go ahead and use it?
