By default all apps have the same priority and will eat up as much CPU as they want. You can set task priority in task manager but it's not automatic, so I imagine this thing detects what running app has focus and brings up the priority to "allocate more CPU to it"?
correct you are sir. But not really. Windows (and any other OS since it's early days, for that mater) also has an anti-starvation system, where no process is left behind, no getting attention from the CPU, and everything is shared nicely and equally. How well it does it comes down to OS. But if you feel you know you know more than Microsoft, or Linux, or Unix, system you can always override it in the task manager. Which can be a good thing.. some programs do gain high propriety already as you start them, such as multimedia applications. This is slowly disappearing, but it was a way to ensure smooth audio and/or video playback back in the old days when he had really week AND single core processors. Now it's not needed to be honest. It doesn't harm anything as we have dual and quad cores now (and even more), so there is no software that would be hit. But normally, back in the days when it did mater, when you did this, you "slow-down" your other processes. Basically, this feature is getting to be like our scroll-lock key on our keyboard... where it's actually useless, with our super powerful CPU's (Anything at or more powerful than a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket 939), multi-core CPU's. Unless you are doing something specifically CPU intensive and trying to gain every second from the process. Back in the days if you didn't want your video or music to skip while you did other intensive stuff on the back, it was a must (and program did and still do priorities the it's own task)
Recently I've been having trouble getting GTA IV to run at high FPS. This looked legit, so I bought it, and thanks to GameZap; I now get 90FPS where previously I was getting 17FPS! It's amazing! I would definitely recommend you buy this software, and maybe also download some extra RAM as well like Nexxo said. Doing that doubled my framerate to 180FPS! Moreover, GTA also now runs at a smooth 25FPS on my Atom-powered netbook when I plug it into my 40 inch TV. Well worth the money.
The majority of my posts should come with a sarcasm warning You have to hand it to them though, an 88 bit kernel is certainly....innovative
WOW!! That must be the HolyVision addon accelerating your OpenGL! How does the "just-booted" memory feel like?
Just booted memory would feel slower than if the memory had time to cache often used files. That freshly installed feeling is something to go for though.
Don't get me started on HolyVision, it's amazing! And I don't get the "just booted" feeling, I get the "like new" feeling because the software goes and gets me more DIMMs from Crucial and installs them itself! It's great.
I just took the liberty to venture forth and further explore the Dachshound Software website and, lo and behold, I've stumbled upon another gem, Battery Doubler. Unlike the simple performance enhancing features of Hare Battery Doubler is more of a Nelson Mandela-like tool in that it doubles your battery's autonomy. I'm certain that with repeated use your battery will soon be able to yell "Free at last! Thank God, I'm free at last!"
Let's not forget AntiCrash, the program that fixes exactly 95.8% of errors for you! Fear not Bit-techers, for updates to this "high-quality miracle software that will amplify the power of your computer" is coming soon, bringing Vista compatibility! Wow.
I missed that one, nice catch. You must have been using Zoom, not only giving you faster startups but an improved shutdown dialog box! Cor... And then we have JuggleMouse - sex up your cursor with mouse trails featuring Windows 3.0-style graphics (as a side note, Stardock's CursorXP provides far more eye-candy in the mouse department, Vista/7 users will need the updated CursorFX which requires online activation). Wow, who thought that memory managers and doublers had died since the triumph of SoftRam95? On the other hand, they do list CacheMan which does serve a useful purpose - providing enough settings and options to keep anal-retentive PC experts busy tinkering and off the streets!
Check out their facts page. The company info's quite amusing too. Complete with daschund wall papers!
hehe you guys didn't know about the ram bridge? I was all into the performance end back then too that's 32mb x 4 and those cache chips to the right, special order, 1ns faster than stock used to do a lot of audio with that rig though.. spent a fortune on the stuff that board wasn't the original though.. swapped it with another around late 90's.. there was a lot of crazy claims made back then.. remember stacker and doublespace- was before mp3 compression too when you had some really crappy compression algorithms to play with.. so most of the time you were stuck editing uncompressed.. when you had 200mb of hd space that was a lot of fun
Well, ive just downloaded this and my ram usage went down by 212mb (now using: 724mb / 4GB) but CPU usage is twiching between 2-4% (E5300 @ 3Ghz) But overall, ive noticed about a 5% speed increase.. Running Windows XP x64 SP2
http://www.dachshundsoftware.com/index.html No you dumb@$$! 1- It's not an Indian word, they were no Indian's in Canada. They are called First Nations/Native American indigenous people. They are NOT from India! 2- Canada is derived form kanata, which means "village" or "settlement". NOT "Big village" And what are those facts relate to your stupid software?
