If you somehow stupidly managed to puncture the actual drive case and hit a platter, then there is only a chance of recovering untouched platters, but if it is still closed and that is just a broken bottom, then you can send it to have the data recovered. BTW

WTF IS THAT, IS THAT A PEN THAT YOU STUCK THROUGH YOUR HDD? you have 1337 skillz :hehe: :hehe:

IS that what I think it is? It looks like a friggin 30-06 or .308 round!

WTF is that, and how did you do it (I would also declare it dead unless you have some priceless pictures, or expensive software or something.....but since it went almost dead center, I would say your hosed)...

Oh, and if that is a bullet hole...A: nice shooting and B: WTF are you shooting your computer for!

No, its the core of an armor piercing .50 bmg round :D

My dads work handles some sensitive stuff... and when they have hard drive that need to be upgraded, the old ones must be destroyed. The guy in charge of that took a whole stack of HDDs (dad said 8-10) and puts a shot through them to destroy them.

Now its just a conversation piece.

A military production facility here in sweden (Bofors Defence) uses a slightly less military approach, but no less effective.

They just use an angle grinder or large sheet metal cutter do make two harddrives out of one.

    I kinda figured....

The bullet that is in there isn't the orginal obviously. 50 cal weapons are SOOOO much fun to shoot though!

I dont think it is the original, but it sure as heck isnt a new one... it is well under 1/2" so I think that it was some other one recoverd after the AP core had the jacket taken off it it by the target.
