    Hey guys,

as title really, the thing is out of warrenty, im just wondering what best to do?

Its a mates, and she needs it for her work, SO sending it back and paying for repairs is only realy an option if acer are quick in the turn around.

failing that, any idea were I can pick one up, online? and how hard it will be to fit?

    cheers gentlemen. :hip:

any one with a decent answer can get drunk on as many e-beers they like :thumb:

Well one option is to get her to buy an external drive - that's a quick fix. If you pull the CD-drive, you can probably get a new one on eBay, but you never know. :thumb:

one of my work colleagues uses an Acer Ferrari laptop which has a slot loading optical drive, if yours is the same you can get a Liteon SLW-831S from Dabs for around 40 quid, I got one for my precision laptop some months ago but took it out again as the powered load/eject was too noisy for me :duh: , swapping out was a 3 min op and OS recognised the hardware upon reboot.

IIRC the Acer has a bezel which is painted red on the Ferrari model, this is just a cosmetic piece and the drive you buy I reckon will sit behind it no problem.
