    http://biggovernment.com/2009/09/17/breaking-house-votes-to-cut-all-funds-to-acorn/

Is it just me or does it seem unreasonable to cut all the funding to an organisation with 400,000 members that advocates for low- and moderate-income families by working on neighborhood safety, voter registration, health care, affordable housing, and other social issues.

This organisation came to light recently when some journalists tried to make undercover videos of employees, using actors to pose as a pimp and prostitute seeking advice from them. Allegedly one of the employees wasn't fooled by the "poor acting" and knew their ridiculous antics were completely falsified (my interpretation is that they were being completely outrageous in order to illicit a condemning response worthy of their journalistic intentions). Seeing through their blatant ******** this employee decided to have a bit of fun with them, and made a completely false statement about killing her husband. The delivery of the joke was completely deadpan and hilariously casual and outrageous (watch the video, it's obvious what she's saying is not true). Naturally the reporters took her seriously, didn't bother to fact check her blatant lie and reported it to be the truth. Fox News ALSO didn't bother fact checking it, and reported it to be the truth.

Yes, it was a foolish mistake.

But are we seriously suggesting that one person's bad joke should cause such an absurd backlash? So I'm sure there must be more to it than this, I'd be interested to hear of it, but even considering evidence of corruption within the organisation, surely some kind of investigation would be preferable to such a drastic move?

Reading some of the comments on that page it would appear to be a popular decision but then i don't know the background nor the political bias of that particular source.

Edit had a bit of a google and the only two Uk sources i could find are Murdoc rags, what a surprise. Also the site seems to be conservative bias and thus i assume the only people who bother with it are of the same politics, which would explain the comments.

Actually the telegraph carries an opinion piece which is far from complimentary also.

Well, the source I quoted appears particularly right wing. The comments are so right it's almost cringeworthy.

ACORN shouldn't be punished this severely, but trust me, between Fox News and the Right Wing, this was the chance they have been waiting for. Remember; ACORN has been in their sites for a long time. It doesn't matter what they represent, this little slip up already adds to the Right's "damning" evidence of this liberal extremist group. Don't forget they already tried to discredit ACORN during the campaign trail for questionable acts during the voting process in the primaries.

Meanwhile Blackwater is still being funded even though their boss has been indicted.
