(1) would connecting base on the opto to GRND be a bad thing? I just don't like leaving things unconnected..

(2) how do you know which leg of the pwr header is ground? I mean, mobo man does not state....?

If I fitted a 100Ohm POT inline with the 12v line, and there is a max of 27.6W flowing through when the resistance is set to min/zero will this fry the poor little pot?

*sigh* I know you're impatient for the article. I wonder though at times why I write them....

I used a QT113D-H, the active high version, to turn on a 4066 which is a quad CMOS switch. The datasheets should be all the schematics you need, but I'll have the article done as soon as I get some of the details rewritten.

I'm gonna not rehash everything that's in the article in this post, but there are issues you need to think about, and mostly they are discussed in the datasheets.
