Any one see this? The letter sending law firm has been hacked and some of the details they held on users has been released to the web. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11425789 Ceiling cat bless 4chan? It would appear they are facing a fine of half a million for this particular breach. Its probably not great news if your details are now circulating the torrentverse but its probably worse if your ACS:Law.
My name could be on that list I'm always pirating games to test them, if they're good, I'll buy them, if not, I'll get rid of 'em. Extended demo's <3
I'll be suprised if they get a fine anywhere near that size to be honest. The ICO has always been more bark than bite and I can't see that changing, even with their new powers.

AFAIK they've never brought a case to trial, they're just raking in the cash from people who are scared to challenge it. Personally I'd like to see someone that's been sent one of those letters taking ACS:Law to court to challenge their claims.
Agreed - I would really like to see the law tested to see how they can prove the link between an IP address and an individual. If it becomes defacto that the connection owner is responsible rather than them having to actually having to identify an individual then it opens a whole can of worms.
Ouch, gonna warn their ass? ---- Personally I think it's disgraceful that they've 'leaked' these details. They should be charged the 500K for each name on the list. Companies like this are a waste of time and money anyway, accusing the innocent of everything and anything for a quick buck. Losers.
Another law company getting into the letter writing business model.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11443861
Where can I see this list? I tend to dl' quite a bit of anime and movies, until ofc they get licensed in the UK, at whch time I tend to but the DVD.
