I am thinking of doing something similar with a 30GB Ipod hard drive. Can this be done using the same USB cable from ipod? I am thinking that the small Toshiba HDD will fit inside the memory bay easily. Anyone tried this?

Hi. Having just got a asus eee pc 4g and having the same storage problems, and read the article above. My question is.... will it work with the Window Os or is it jist for the Linux Os and does it increase C drive memory or show as another drivewhen seen on "my computer" properties..Your help greatfully recieved.
The size is great for what I need and I need more C drive storage as a master.

You can put windows on the EEE quite easily with an external CD ROM, and with a bit of work using a SD card.

Any added storage like USB drives and SD cards are not part of your C:/ but you can use programs that will make them show up as part of C:/, I think. You may not be allowed to remove them after setting them up that way though.

What I did was install the OS and updates to the SSD, and all my programs to an 8gb SD card. This gave me 1.5gb free on the SSD and everything worked great.

Should be applicable to any of the older EEEs, such as yours, for sure.

Thanks for the response CardJoe. By the way, I think I would be able to install Windows in the new drive and treat it as a primary drive.
