    I would like to get 3x 4GB stick of DDR3. Any recommendations? Also, CS5 now supports CUDA with GTX 285 cards. If I was to build a pc to just run this software, what would be the best components to choose? I was thinking of a motherboard with lots of DIMM slots, and support for many HD?

    I may go for a dual xeon workstation mobo, so I think I would have to invest over 2000. I just wonder what would be faster my present i7 930 with a nvidia GTX 295 or a dual xeon system? I was thinking about this mobo Intel S5520SC? which has PCI 16x support.

    Whoa, stick i7 930 and go for 6 x 2gb DDR3 1600mhz overclocked with a SSD. That should be more than enough to handle any enthusiast video/image rendering etc. Sure, the above would be faster. But really, it's a waste of money as that's more a server set up expecting to run 3-4 PC's doing heavy tasks like that. Your PC will be able to handle it no problem.

    Requirements:

    * Intel® Core™2 Duo or AMD Phenom® II processor; 64-bit support required
    * 64-bit operating system required: Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 or Windows® 7
    * 2GB of RAM (4GB or more recommended)
    * 10GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash-based storage devices)
    * 7200 RPM hard drive for editing compressed video formats; RAID 0 for uncompressed
    * 1280x900 display with OpenGL 2.0–compatible graphics card
    * Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
    * Adobe-certified card for capture and export to tape for SD/HD workflows
    * OHCI-compatible IEEE 1394 port for DV and HDV capture, export to tape, and transmit to DV device
    * Sound card compatible with ASIO protocol or Microsoft Windows Driver Model
    * DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (DVD+-R burner for burning DVDs; Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
    * QuickTime 7.6.2 software required for QuickTime features
    * Broadband Internet connection required for online services*

    Trust me, your rig is fine. At the most 12gb RAM and a SSD.

    If you wanted every bit of power possible you could always get a GTX 285 to run for program then for gaming use it as a physx card - but I doubt you'd need it.

    What types of files are you even working on? Are you a professional?

    Thanks for your opinion. I think I will increase my RAM to 12GB, buy an SSD and a GTX 285 for my present system.

    ^ I'd get confirmation on the GTX 285 first :)

    But also I think worth knowing this question: docodine: What types of files are you even working on? Are you a professional?

    Ive just been given some footage from a RED camera, and I get like 1 s RAM playback with CS4. I also add effects to HD video quite regularly . I am by no means a professional but I do quite alot of amateur work.

    if you work with premiere also you can get Elemental's RapiHD plug-in.. that will actually make a difference in your compress times

    from what I've seen in photoshop cs4, it uses the gpu on my nvidia card but I don't really see any working difference from cs2 XD here's all it does- basically nothing it's hype
