    Hi Guys

My Dad is in the market for a new router as his current one is constantly kicking me off xbox live and is generally dated (it was one of the first G routers).

Whilst browsing we have found many routers for varying prices but couldn't find a decider due to mixed reviews.

Soooo, I decided that I trust no one more than the good people of bit tech for technological advice.

Can anyone reccomend me a good Wireless ADSL router (BT line) for <£35

    Thanks

You're going to struggle to get a 'good' ADSL modem/router for less than £50 to be honest. You might get your hands on a budget Netgear for that money, last years model and it will likely have poorer wireless quality than it's more expensive competitors but that's what you expect with cheaper products.

Before moving to VM, I used to swear by Linksys for BT connections. I was in a poor reception area and had significantly less issues after switching out to Linksys. Expect to pay at least £50 for the WAG120N (a 'good' wireless ADSL router).

There are other brands, the elite if you will, but they will be at least 4x your budget.

Yeah, like I alluded to before, it's an older model but you shouldn't have any issues with XBL. I've set up Belkins for friends and they're easy and straight forward to do. You don't get all the extra configuration options you get on higher end routers but you'll get enough for a basic setup including plug and play for XBL nat configuration.

Oh, and dont forget to forward the following ports for Xbox Live:

    Port 88 (UDP)
    Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 80 (TCP)

and if you have Kinect... Port 1863 (UDP and TCP)

Doing this will minimise the risk of you getting kicked off or being unable to find matched games in COD etc.
