I doubt very much that they cost £23 and £20 respectively though... ;)

    The Computer system is irrelevant.

What settings have you used and what ISP are you with?

it would help if you had a second pc to talk to MSN me with while you set it up...

That works with BTOpenworld. If your settings are like this, it will dial. Proof is: I took the screenies while connected :p.

I've set up mine exactly as shown but it won't connect to BT.

    Help please

Looking at the router status it goes from

WAIT FOR ACTIVATING - debug code 8

    ACTIVATING - debug code 10

    IDLE - debug code 0

I've tried changing the default address from 192.168.8.1 to 192.168.5.1 and no difference.

The only difference I can see is that I'm on btclick.com not btinternet.com

    Any clues anyone ?

    Hmmm...

    Sounds like an authentication problem.

Is your password and username correct?

Might be worth giving BT a ring to make sure u have got it all right!

    from the manual:

PWR: Router with proper power connection
CD: ADSL Carrier Detect if LED is flash
LNK: ADSL connection has been established if LED is on
ACT: Router works properly with flashing LED
TST: ADSL physical layer with uncorrected blocks if LED is flash
Tx: Console port is transmitting data to PC
Rx: Console port is receiving data from PC
LAN: Ethernet twisted-pair port is connected if LED is on

You need to apply the firmwares to make it better tho.

Got one of these as well, good bit of kit, but was wondering what do i need to check if the router needs to be configured so that I can VPN into work. We use a Cisco VPN Client, it goes thru, accepts my password and the stops on Checking Secure Channel. Is there someone simple like this router cannot be used with VPN. Any help please

Fly, that ADSL router you have (the one you linked to near the beginning of this thread costs £44.85 inc VAT)... how come it has jumped in price so much, was there an error in price or something? :sigh:

I might still get it though, what do you think... good value still?

Does anyone know if I will have any problems running this with Mandrake Linux? AFAIK all I need for Linux to work correctly with it is for the Linux box to have a NIC in it that is compatible with Linux... would that be right?

thats not a bad router, even for 45 quid. And a little birdy tells me that the one you get is actually the same look but with a different chip (a better one apparently).

As for Linux, yeah it works just fine.

So this is a modem and a router in one? All I'll need is a switch then :)

    4-port switch recommendations?

Also, what NICs do people recommend? - cheapest possible (although I want something that will perform ok too ;) )

EDIT: preferably I'd like the NICs to work with Linux if possible.

EDIT 2: what's the difference between a switch and a 'managed switch'?
