Internet Connetion Sharing. Firstly I set up an old m/c for serving and routing duties. Networked it with a cross over cable and set up ICS. Both machines run 2000 pro service pack 3 and the network is running acceptable (allbeit from a base 10 onboard network controller on the old system) The 2 machines are imaginately called "server" for the old one and "barton" for the new one. Barton can use the connection with no problems for browsing and email. I use yahoo messenger and Picphone regularly to video chat with mates. (picphone is a GREAT voice client / server for anyone who hasnt heard of it - ill get the link when im at home later) Now.... on to the problem. Yahoo works fine under normal text chat conditions. If i get sent an invitation to view a mates cam i can view it as i allways did with the modem connected directly to my PC. If i start mine and invite a mate, his yahoo recognises that there is a webcam running but will not get any pictures. The same goes for picphone. If i call him, no problems but if he calls me there is no reply and i dont get a notification. I assume that the his PC is only "seeing" my server PC and not the barton PC on the same external IP, unless i instigate the connection between us. I run sygate on both PCs and have tried disabling the server instance of sygate to no avail. TIA Cheebs
have you tried the obvious things like checking whether other people can connect to your camera and whether he can connect to other peoples cameras?
You most likly need some sort of port forwader program, to forward what ever port Tahoo uses to the other PC on your LAN. ICS is probably not the best thing in the world to use for sharing t'internet, shame its the only option in 2k pro, RAS NAT on a 2k server box would be ideal.
Yup tried all the obvious things. As soon as i put the modem back on my main PC it all works perfectly. I can even replicate the problem if i try to view my webcam over yahoo from "server" logged in as a different account. <Edit> I will check teh port forwarding program. Any suggestions as to what i should try?
You could try: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmapper.htm www.analogx.com Cant say i have used it myslef though, used to using port forwarder & packet filters at work on proper kit than at home!! HTH
