I just read the FAQ's and couldn't find what i was looking for. Might have missed it. I have a 2.5 inch colour graphic lcd display with a "controller board?". Right now, it takes a composite video input and works fine. Since my computer doesn't have dual desktop support, if i use the s-video out, the image would be of my exact desktop and would be too small to be of any practical use. I'd like to use it for information like cpu temp and winamp ect. I'm wondering... Since it has composite vidio right now, does it have a controller board? And if it does, what kind of info do i need to adapt the board to serial or parallel? I have very limited/no info on manufacturer or model of this thing. Any advice on what i could do would be great. Thanx.
Basically, you're stuck with running it via your graphics card. Serial and Parallel are far too slow to run a full-color display. What graphics card are you using anyway? Anything made within the past two years or so should have two RAMDACs on it, which would allow for independent desktops.
It's actually going into my laptop. Its the Bluegear BG-V301. I really don't need a fast refresh rate at all. 1 frame/sec would be fine. The laptop does have s-video out and another vga out on the back but it just seems to "mirror" The laptops screen. And in the propertys settings, i dont get the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor". I'd just run the s-video signal if i could. I just wanted it for basic info, not videos or anything. I'm not sure if this changes anything. Am i stuck with my graphics card output?
Laptops aren't designed to be used as dual displays, the second output is designed for presentations. You may find a driver hack that lets you run dual, but this is unlikely as there is little demand for it.
Depends on the graphics card and the drivers you're using. My laptop can extend the desktop onto a 2nd screen if I so wanted.
Yah, exactly. Thats why i'd like to run it off a serial or peralell port. Not for video, just for info.
Yah, I have it completly apart. I can't find any numbers stamped on it at all. I found "cpcpg3" on the circut board but extensive googling gives me nothing. I'm gong to double check for numbers tomorow afternoon.
If it is designed to run on a video signal (S-video), it will not run off serial or parallel port --that's a whole different ballgame. If your laptop runs Windows XP, simply go to Display Properties, get it to recognise the secondary monitor (as "attached") and tick "Extend my desktop onto this monitor". Presto.
I've come to the idea that i'll probibly end up running it off of my s-video source. I may be in the market for a generic LCD and controller. How many screens can someone fit in a laptop? I googled "secondary monitor attached" and eventually found "To activate the secondary monitor, right-click within the "2" rectangle and check Attached. Then configure the display properties as desired." I didn't know about the right clickin on the 2nd monitor box. Kewl. Cause the laptop is still being modded, its in pieces. I'll try it tomorow when it's together. I fear thet i remember not seeing the "Extend my desktop onto this monitor" box at all. Not even grayed out. My memory sucks just about as bad as my spelling. Thanx for the ideas.
O.K. New developments. My laptop sucks. It will supply S-video OR VGA out. Not at the same time. LCD on means no s-video out. My little mod is useless. Unless.... I found a data sheet for my lcd! Check this out! http://www.hy-line.de/fileadmin/hy-line/computer/display/sunful/dokumente/HYW065XS1-AV.PDF I just need a little advice on how to wire it. Any advice would be great. Thanx, *Update* Its "Close" to thid data sheet. I'm trying to find the exact one. My board doesnt have "CN3" on the board. I'm going to try lifting the board and looking at the back side.
