Sorry for the delay in response - been away for a few days. 8gb still seems a bit much to me, but he has consulted his friend who uses cubase 6 and while gb is ok he suggests 8gb would be perfect. Though he also says low latency important. I had thought about going mATX board and the one linked looks like it has all he will need on it, so it may well be a winner. If we need to save the pennies then the slightly cheaper HDD may be worth it, but I am a fan of Samsung HDD and Seagate hates me - I don't think I have ever had a Seagate HDD last the life of my computer PSU I am very undecided on. I think 600W is way too much for a PC without an actual GPU, but he feels more comfortable with the extra power. I had looked at the BeQuiet 530W PSU originally. I think the Gelid looks the winner for the fan. I am still not sure on case. The quiet ones are good, but personally I have never been a fan of a front door on them, bt if they will keep things notably quiet it may be worth it. Anyone know what http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ante...uiet-mid-tower-case-with-frontal-door-w-o-psu is like? Or any of the other Antec quiet ones? Or is R3 the best for quiet case? He actually really likes the look of the HAF 912+ (saw it in my house) obviously excessive with a mATX board and doesn't help with keeping things quiet, but unless the silent cases are really good at their job then I would probably go with ths as it is what he likes the look of.
As you say a 600w is overkill....but I suppose more room for future expansion?? Although if he won't add a gpu I don't know what you could possibly add to justify 600w! That BeQuiet is very good, tell your friend better to go lower wattage on a better make and model as then it will be solid, probably quieter and just generally more reliable when pushed. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-precision-ps04b-all-black-mid-tower-case-w-o-psu The whole silverstone ps range is somewhat similar to the haf 912.....somewhat hahah very good cases to, cheap and cool. As to silence, well its up to you to buy quieter fans for it, low rpm. I don't know anything about the case you mentioned but it won't be that cool just based on looks, that said for your purposes it wont need to be!
I've gone with a silverstone 600w Power Supply at the moment, not too expensive at £60. silence is more important than cooling, especially as there is no GPU to cause heat
I can add that the Cooler Master Silent M series are super quiet and quite reliable so far the fan on the PSU only kicks in if you go over 500 W power I think it was or might run really slow before the 500W mark. Oh and the PSU comes with these silicon pads to reduce vibration. But like the other guys said, 600W is a tad much.
