i dont know which category should is place this thread.... general or in modding category. i need some useful advice from experts on electronics on how to improve my electronics skills. i am an engineering student and majoring in electronics. i learn alot about electronics which is quite hard and also interesting. i like to mod electronics but i dont know on how to implement my electronics knowledge to create some products. its because i have surf alot in bit-tech electronics section and i saw many modders come up with their own custom circuit design and for me it is cool to come up with our own design. so.... i need some advice on how to achieve the electronics and designing skills . :geek:

I think its best to start small. Set yourself a goal and try to achieve it. Like try to build an amp. Look up circuits for them and work out a why to build them. Then try to improve/manipulate them. For instance if the amp would run from 12V what would you have to do to run from 7V? Thats a thing i`ve been doing for a while now. I try to build a portable speaker system for sitting in a park. It had 3 revisions so far but there is still room for improvement. If you find something you like go for it.

antihero makes a good point/statement (or whatever). go look in electronics magazines at the schematics and work out how they work, then try to improve on them somehow, or add features. do you have any electronics experience? and tools?

I'll second that, if I wanted to learn something practical that I didn't know before I'll just try and build it.

hahahaa....sorry im kind of person who like to ask like that..... maybe u can help

what do you mean by electronic experience? (PCB design, circuit assemble) yes i have. last semester the new thing that i learn is to program motorolla 68k chip. it is quite interesting to see the output. tools? i have use iron solder for many years. but i just have soldering iron and also multimeter only. no expensive tools such as oscilloscope or power supply. but i want to have that.... love them... very useful.

so to achieve the ulitimate skill i need to do try n error method. also i need to find a schematic on the net and try to analyze the circuit and improve the circuit. but i think if i want to built the amp.... i think i need a special tools to analyze the waveform:worried:.

so about designing what should i know to design the circuit? should i know more deeper about electronics?

Im not sure if "hahahaa....sorry im kind of person who like to ask like that..... maybe u can help" was a responce of sarcasm but if it was then DAMN!! He has a point it is a VERY large question to ask! You're not too far along then I am in terms of uni education i.e. 1st or 2nd year but i'll be brutal... after college I had a great idea of how things worked and what was needed in order to plan a project. Now if you cant do that, then fine its not the end of the world. But you really need to readup. It seems to me like that you're not too sure in your own education, and as a result you're not sure how to apply what you have.

That being the case the best thing you can do over the summer is just build!!! And that sounds like it should, use what knowledge you have and use it, it doesnt matter how easy it is. For example, this summer im going to build a laser harp, robot arm, spectrometer and help a few mates out with their projects. Just get suck in and use what you know and build from there!! Good luck:thumb:

Which uni u from? If your Uni sends Robocon team for national competition every year, enroll yourself, be part of the team. Good fun, great experience. Hands on experience beyond anything you can get in any course.

I find that going into the joys of digital electronics first works for me. For starters, work with microcontrollers. From there you'll come across some form of analogue circuitry to try out, like circuits to control motors and stuff, power supplies etc2. Once you get the hang of it, then expand further. Amps, wireless comms, RC, or continue further on small scale robotics.
