Hi all, I am planning a new gaming build which will mainly be used for MMO games. Any advice on the following build would be appreciated. http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/971a3868001c4799b902e97caf27962b I already have a 24" monitor running at 1920x1080 so I don't need to include a new one. I don't need Windows 7 either. Thanks.
If you want the best SSD performance then you'll want to go with one that has a SF-2281 controller. Most of the time retailers aren't going to tell you what controller the SSD uses, so you're going to have to look that up yourself, but I can tell you now that the one you have is not SF-2281. It's got a Marvel controller, and while that's not bad, that's also not the best. Other than that and your PSU being a little over powered (not a problem especially if you're looking at crossfire in the future) I'd say you look fine. Question though, why do you need a Blu-Ray burner for an MMO build?
i had the crucial m4 on my spec (as i am building one soon) and a friend said that you want the read an write above 500 idealy and he pointed me in the directction of this little beauty and its cheaper
That Corsair Force is great value Pat - you're using a 6GB memory kit in a dual channel board, so you need to change that to a 2x2GB (4GB) kit or a 2x4GB (8GB) kit. You're also missing keyboard and mouse - important in MMOage if you're into keybinds etc; do you have these already? You also need to change the motherboard ho ho ho (see user title).
You can cut down on the soundcard (onboard-sound is good enough imho for playing games) and you can aswell cut down on the PSU (500 Watts are enough for your hardware). And as Bindi said, you're looking for dual-channel RAM, so 2x4GB is the way to go. Last but not least, allthough that GPU is damn sexy, it's overkill for any MMO currently outthere or released within the next month. Going with the GTX560 Phantom saves you another hundred bucks. All in all you can easily drop the price below that 1000-mark and still have a very powerful rig for playing MMOs and most other games outthere.
I totally disagree about the sound card. Onboard sound really isn't very good, it's like comparing the speed of a mechanical hard disk to the speed of a SSD; once you've had one you'll never go back! If you want to save ~£90 then get a 560 Ti, but you'd have greater longevity with the 570.
Edited to save you £200 quid. http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/7b48e3269a67405181a55bf6e7458f4f Different GTX570 and slightly faster GPU core and memory (saving £23) I've changed your PSU and saved you a lot of cash. You don't need to spend that on a PSU for the system you're building. (saving £65) Also, I've chinned off your Blu Ray Writer. Do you really need one??? (Saving £54) I've left out the soundcard altogether because I agree with jrs77. Unless you're an audiophile, you're not really going to notice the difference when absorbed in games (saving £55) I've also put the correct ram in for your system and you get a free upgrade to 8GB (2x4GB) Total saving - £199
Thanks for all your advice, particularly Sentinel for posting the edited build. I hope to place an order based on something similar to that tomorrow.
Different Motherboard Hi all, I went to place the order today but discovered that the MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) is no longer available. Scan are saying it has been replaced by the MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) but it is not available until next week. Any advice on whether I should source the P67A elsewhere, wait for the Z68 or maybe go for one of the Asus or Gigabyte boards? Thanks.
