I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with finding a replacement water pump.

My stock Eheim 1046 is grinding away despite a Aqua Computer FMJ and wooden box full of cotton balls. It used to be a little noisy but now it is easily audible from across the room. Searching the forum for information gleamed information on the CSP Magnum.

With the pump off the computer is very quiet. What should I use as a replacement? All the water pump has to do is be quiet and push the water at 79 GPH with 1.2 meters lift. It should be able to fit in a large computer case.

    System:

    Modified Zalman Reserator 1
Zalman CPU, VGA, Northbridge, Aqua Computer HD cooler
    Tygon 3/8" x 1/2" tubing (about 8 feet long),

Below are some of the possible replacements I could think of:

    C-Systems CSP Magnum + SpeedFan
    Alphacool modified Laing DDC
    Alphacool PUM Laing DDC
    DD12V-D5
    AquaXtreme 50Z-DC12

    Thank you for you help.

I'm running two CSP-mags in my system, and they're rather quiet. Mine aren't anywhere near as isolated as yours, so I suspect that in a setup like yours, they wouldn't even be audible.

However, the CSP-mags really don't like anything other than 12 volts. I tried dropping them down to 7 volts, and the noise more than doubled.

Other than the CSP-mag, the Alphacool-modded DDC (with the plexi top and top intake) is a wonderful pump. It's every bit as quiet as the CSP-mag, and one DDC will move more water than my two (in parallel) CSP-mags.

Have you tried cleaning the pump?

Alphacool modified Laing DDC is by FAR the best performing choice, and one of the quietest.

Running two CPS Magnums in a push-pull setup was the cheap alternative but supposedly their quality control is poor. Either one of the Alphacool modified Laing DDCs might work but people have had a very difficult time reducing the voltage without the pump stalling at startup.

The best pump might be the Laing DDC but what speedcontrol should I use to reduce the noise without it stalling when the computer starts up?

The two year-old Eheim has a very worn shaft and always given me trouble out of the box. It was always noisy and used to vibrate through the desk new before the propeller shaft started to grind three months ago. Cleaning and lubricating the shaft only made it worse.

The best pump replacement is the Alphacool Laing DDC fitted with a clear cover and reservoir. Thanks for the help and when everything is fixed I will put some pictures up in the forum. Getting rid of of the damaged Eheim will make the high cost worth it.

I have a CSP-Mag and it does the job but i would not describe it as quiet. My Aqua-computer aquastream (rebranded and moded 1046) pump was a lot quieter. After using the mag i would go with the laing.

Same here. The CSP is louder than a DDC and the DDC is an itty bit louder than my Innovatek HPPS (a 12v modded Eheim 1046).

@ DRB: I don't think the Aquastream or HPPS are "rebranded" 1046's, but are instead made by Eheim with AC/Innovatek's specs (the HPPS has a note that says it's made by Eheim to Innovatek's specifications).

Confused: DDC VS VDC Laing MCP 350

Before buying a Laing MCP 350 there are some issues problems that recently came up. Can anyone can clarify the differences between DDC and VDC pump types? My last post was rude and disrespectful to the experienced members of the forum, and I apologize.

The Laing MCP 350 comes in two types: DDC and VDC

DDC: 8-13.5 Volts, .9 Amp (Danger Den, Swiftech, Alphacool)
VDC: 6-13.5 Volts, .6 Amp (Laing)

Besides the power draw what does DDC and VDC really mean in pump use? Jab-tech sells a straight Laing VDC MCP 350 pump, Alphacool water tank and attachment. Does the Sunbeam Rheobus (0-12 Volt, 1.67 Amp) work best with the DDC or VDC version of the Laing 350 water pump? Will the Alphacool water and mount on the VDC version?

The noisy Eheim 1046 has a lot of problems with wear both inside and around the main shaft. It needs be entirely replaced due to it's poor reliability and habit of grinding the shaft to bits every two years.

    Thank you for the help.

The way I understand it, the Laing DDC has had two revisions now, each with slightly increased wattage (8 to 10, and now 12 Watts) and hence performance. That should be the only difference...

The VDC version of the Laing MCP 350 has no speed cable and runs a little slower. It is actually a Laing Delphi DDC and is used in OEM water coolers.

The Laing DDC made for Alphacool with a Sunbeam rheobus seems is the way to go considering the speed is adjustable. Placing the pump in the wooden box full of cotton balls should dampen out all noise.
