    Hi,

My sister will be completing her Nursing degree shortly, and I want to get my sister a stethoscope as a graduation gift. I've done some Googling which hasn't really been a lot of help.

I was hoping someone might, either through first or second hand experience know of a reputable supplier?

    I have found this http://www.mortonmedical.co.uk/Welch_Allyn_Harvey_Elite_Black_stethoscope~p~98.htm

But I'm not 100% sure. The 10 year warranty seems good. She specialises in neonates, so will need the paediatric head also at a minimum.

Thing is, when compared to the majority of others like the 3M Littman, and AW Spirits that most other companies seem to offer it seems expensive.

I'm very proud of my sister, and want to get her something that shows that pride, and will last long into her career. I also want to ensure the money (which is tight) is well spent.

Thanks for reading my rambling plea.

I can't really help with the stethoscope but I did instaly think of another idea after reading your post. How about an antique fob watch of some kind? Something which, whilst not necessarily of great use in day to day life/work, it is something from you, with thoughtfulness, that she can treasure for a long time and maybe even pass on to children.

Just a thought, good luck with the hunt regardless :)

Thanks Throbbi. I will keep that in reserve. Much appreciated.

or instead of fob watch you could get one of those watches nurses wear on their chest. my girlfriend got one as a gift from her parents when she started her nursing course

We got her a nurses fob for her birthday last year. Thanks for the suggestion though lm_wfc. Like the watch, the stethoscope would be something she would use everyday, which is why I'm stressing over it. :D

    Oh dear.....

When you implied fob watch wouldn't be useful day to day.work as a nurse i assumed you must have been talking about something different, why would you not just buy one you could use?

    Okay, stethoscopes.

You want to get a Littmann, as they're pretty much the de facto standard for quality. If you're spending around £150 (as appears from the link) then my recommendation is the Cardiology III. That 'scope has excellent sound, and comes as standard with two tunable heads (low & high frequency depending on pressure exerted), but the smaller side intended for paediatrics can be converted back to a traditional bell with the kit in the box.

As you say she works in neonates, she'll want to leave it as a tunable diaphragm, and just use the small head.

Best UK supplier is Medisave, who will also engrave for free.

Cei, that's looks brilliant. And free laser engraving too, which would hopefully make someone think twice about nicking it. Great recommendation, thankyou! :thumb:
