instead of hijacking another persons thread ill post this...

Im looking for a watercooling kit and have seen This kit for £68.33 from overclockers.co.uk

does it matter that it doesn't come with a reservoir? or does the pump do that job? how easy would it be to upgrade this kit at a later date? (for example adding a Reservoir, GPU, Chipset or HDD cooler)

if i use it on my 1st pc then it'll just be used for silence as i cant OC the CPU without changing the MB or BIOS. Using it on my 2nd pc would again be for silence but would also allow me to OC the P4 1.8.

basically im after some advise for a newcomer to water cooling.

Dude, if you want to go into watercooling atleast go into watercooling with some style;).

Astek is such cheap plastic stuf with some fake copper on it:).

lol, ner not being rude, just saying, the kits are "NOT" crap real crap for upgrading, you might aswell spend a bit more and get a "real" watercooling kit, so your friend's give you the "WOW" factor;).

E.g. Get some danger den stuff at coolercases

If your uk. Get a tdx, and a nv68, or maze4 depending on your gfx card. Pick up a 1048(do the job for a small setup), and a danger den pot. (This is a small thing at the top of the case, meaning you dont need a res). Only 10pounds. Get a nice thermochill rad 120.1 or something.

And spending about 200quid will prop make it so so so much better!!

i dont have £200 to spend on it, thats why i was looking at a cheaper kit to get me started. if i was to buy individual bits and put them together what exactly will i need to look for? obvisouly the tubing sizes need to be the same size. but will i need a reservoir? or will i just need Block, Pump, Tubing and a Radiator?

Asetek actually produces pretty reasonable stuff. What you are looking at is its most basic kit however. No matter, you can always add or upgrade along the way. I would recommend buying a res as the pump cannot replace its function --a res is expansion room for coolant and an air bubble trap.It also makes filling and draining a lot easier.

Before you take the plunge however consider where you would fit it in your case, and whether it will fit. ;)

heres my case (ignore the wires, ive moved them around since this pic...)

im thinking i should be able to remove the bottom HDD cage and place the rad behind the front intake.

if that doesn't fit then ill have to remove both HDD cages and move the HDD to a 5 1/4 bay (sacrificing a port bay), which should leave me plenty of room,

the pump will have to sit at the bottom of the case, proberly where the PCI slots are.

if i needed a reservoir, id proberly go for a 5 1/4 bay one, it would just mean i would lose my media card reader.

my only other concern, is the pump likly to be run off a mains plug or does it connect to the PSU? if it use's its own plug, will it have its own on/off switch?

Fitting the rad in the front should work.

You do not need to use a bay res. You can use, say, a cylindrical res and put it anywhere else convenient in the case.

The pump comes with its own mains plug. There won't be a switch. You can buy a little PCI card with a relay switch on it however, that you can wire your pump into (and then this card to the mains). What it does is switch on your pump as soon as it senses your PC is switched on, and switch off your pump when the PC is switched off.

i started with that same asetek kit and upgraded it along the way, eventually modding it to 1/2" ID tubing, my temps are 24c/36c on my unoverclocked P4 2.4b, its a damn good kit for the price! a pic of my setup is in the gallery
