Build Advice Advice, system for around 1200€

    K guys, a friend of mine is asking for a system for around 1200€. Anything cheaper is fine.

    What he needs is: Motherboard, processor, ram, hdd (1 is fine), graphics card, cd/dvd drive, case.

    I was thinking:

    Intel I7 920 processor
    Asus P6T mobo
    ATI hd4870 1gb graphics card
    500GB Seagate barracuda.
    3GB DDR3 ram (no idea of what brand I should take).
    Cheapy CD/DVD drive
    Cheapy Case, as long as its cooling effective.
    Maybe an aftermarket cooler for his processor.

    Let me know what you think, I'm quite new to the whole I7 area, so any advise is appreciated before I tell the guy what he should take.

    Sounds fine, but you forgot PSU and OS. :)

    PSU: The one described in that above guide in the "Premium Player" section is fine.

    OS: If he wants Windows, he should get the 7 RC1 and use it till RTM is out.

    Get 6Gb of DDR3 instead of 3Gb, its hardly more expensive and will last much longer! :)
