orrrrrrrrrrrrr you could use mozilla rather than internet explorer. I tried getting rid of my popups but it didnt work so i went for mozilla.

Or you can download SP2 for XP which stops the popup and adware and spyware and etc.

Been thru adaware . Xclean and spybot this morning and none of them completly cleaned the PC, (clients pc running win98 IE5.5) but adaware is still my fave, worth checking windows update for all the latest patches too... and running a full virus scan just to be on the safe side.... thouw in a disk defrag and you'll have a pc good as new hopefully,

    Then install firefox and enjoy....

A couple of other things you can try in opening the wininit.ini file in the C:\Windows\System or C:\Windows\System32 folders. Look for any lines that begin with [NUL]=unusual filename. Delete those out of the file and restart windows.

Also download CoolWeb Shredder and running that.

Then I would also run Windows Update, and maybe a Detect and Repair on Internet Explorer from the Add & Remove Programs applet in Control Panel

I have use Spybot and Adaware extensively (read several times a week on customers PCs). I have performed a little test several times with the same result.

Run Spybot - remove spyware......run Adware and it will find MORE spyware. Never fails Spybot will leave something behind.

Run Adaware - remove spyware.......run Spybot and so far it has never found anymore spyware.

Conclusion is that Adaware is the better of the two - atleast use them BOTH if you have doubts.

download hijack this, and then look for some unusual entries. Then remove the dodgy stuff.

If you install Spybot after Adaware it actually tells you adaware finds the leavings of Spybot no matter what because it always keeps backups.
