i set the demo to my second processor and the cpu useage dropped from 89% to 51% i cant find the drivers in the process tree though so i cant see what affect it has on graw

    Demo with and Without Hardware

We have the chips installed here at our school (UAT - University of Advancing Technology), and I guess they just installed them in the last week or so, since I just noticed the icon for the driver in the control pannel today.

Anyway, as you can see in the original post, if you do not have the chip, the demo states it is running in software mode (in yellow text, upper left corner)

When I run the program, the CPU jumps to 50%, and stabalizes at 50% throughout the demo (no matter what is happening on the screen)

So to test the software mode, I run a second instance of the demo, which gave me a dialog that said the hardware was in use, and the CPU spiked at 100%. Then After closing the original, the CPU went back about 58%.

The difference, when you start throwing balls at the stack in hardware mode, the CPU ony varies between 50% and 54%.

In Software mode, the same test varied from 58% to 100%, and was a little slower (about 2/3 - 3/4 speed of hardware).

So, as you can see, with hardware acceleration, the normal CPU usage is not really affected at all, and without the chip, it definitely is affected... and it kind of chugs a little...

I saw (and got to play with) a REAL demo at GDC, which had cloth ripping and EVERYTHING physicalized (including the chunks of brain when you shot someone in the head, and the blood squirting out of the neck... yeah kinda grose... but kinda cool) and it was pretty amazing.

Now I get to spend some time learning how to actually use it ;-)

    Hope this helps!!!

btw, in case you didn't catch on my hobby site is www.cubee101.com
There isn't much there, but it's still there if you wanna check it out...

i think its amazing. i picked up my physx chip and cell factor and i love it. it really does take the strain off the cpu.

no take the card out and run the demo, its shown to be a waste of money....also it looks like its gonna be pwned by ATi's implementation of its own crossfire physics x1600.....and thats more tempting.

Very intertesting For the physics so far i have not seen a benfit for the card since most games still have software based physics
