Righto I have a small media viewer/storage computer running Win7, it's P4 HT, 2gb DDR1 and a GeForceFX 5900, the system score gives the gfx card 1.0, although it runs fine, no games at all on this I think I should upgrade but am not going to change the mobo at all so no PCI-E What's out there that's good, ebay links would be great or ideas what to look for Thanks
Can't go wrong with this IMO: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...cs-ATI/ATIAGPSeries/Hightech/H467Q1GHDAP.html ATI seem to do a wider range of AGP cards than Nvidia these days from what I've seen.
whats the point in upgrading the card if your not using it for gaming or anything else ? if its just for displaying the desktop id leave it.
He wants a supported video card so that he can has driver for, so that when he moves a window, it's not a slide show, and can use Windows Aero (ie: access to all the Windows 7 experience). A Geforce 7300 will also do. You should be able to get them for ~60-70$US, if not cheaper. The Geforce FX 5900 only has Vista drivers. And NO Vista drivers don't work in Win7. I have the video card and tried. Some few people on forums CLAIM that they managed to make Vista driver work.. but don't post any proof, let alone say how it runs.
Thank's everyone. Upgrading will happen in time but no spare cash to do it yet as it'll be practically a new system, the RAM in this PC is DDR1, although didn't realise the price of AGP cards was still high. Goodbytes - what's the definition of working? I have Win7 running with my 5900XT and used the Vista drivers, videos work and no issues I noticed yet
I was referring to the Geforce FX, as it's Vista drivers are 175 series (first gen Vista drivers), while other, newer video cards from Nvidia are well in the 191 series. Using either drivers (Vista and Win7) under Win7 on my test system, featuring this AGP Geforce FX5900, cause problems, such as extreme drawing problems, or simply not work (like if I had no driver installed). My definition of working, is that it's: - Able to get to your desktop and use the computer (no errors nor BSOD) - able to draw correctly, and fast. - able to to play videos and DVD playback smoothly. - able to manage Aero interface engine smoothly at a resolution of 1920x1200 minimum.
HD 4650 for just 55 pounds. The core clock is not as impressive as the 4670 someone posted earlier, but it will be just as big of an improvement over what you have at the moment at almost half the price. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-HD...ef=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1257608884&sr=8-2-fkmr1
Anything come of this, I am in a similar situation my self. My 2nd machine currently has a X800XT PE installed, and no drivers I have found are compatible with Win7 at all. This morning I stumbled across the 4650, and it would make an ideal card for HD playback and light gaming as I intend to take it to LAN parties as a rental for others. Anyway ATI's so called driver support has put me off jumping on this, this morning as it might be the AGP aspect causing problems with in the driver. An thoughts.
