Hello everyone. I'm considering that it's a remote possibility that I'll upgrade my graphics card, a GeForce FX 5900XT, for a more powerful AGP card within the next year or so. I want to be able to play new games to come out, such as UT2007 and I'm not sure if a 5900XT will cut it. The dilemma is that I'm not sure whether it's worth upgrading the motherboard for one that supports PCI-E, and getting SLI cards, or something similar. What do you think? Cheers, aka
Well, if you want to upgrade to 64-bit and want the ability to upgrade to PCI-E later, get this mobo. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081
I really would advise going PCI-E AGP cards are going for more than theyre PCI-E equivalents these days and the high end cards no longer come in AGP flavour. What cpu do you have at the moment?
The CPU on this PC is a Pentium 4 3.20GHz with Hyper Threading, I'm not sure I want to go 64bit just yet. Any ideas how much a high-end mobo for this setup would be? Would it be cheaper to buy a new mobo and a PCI-E card than just an AGP card(as if)?
is that a 478 CPU? You woulndt be cheaper getting a board and GPU but your options would be increased
Went from FX 5900 XT to 6800 GT myself earlier in the year, Very noticeable upgrade (since you can actually run DX9 code at a playable rate with a 6800 GT) But, for the expense and hassle of it ? I'm not sure I'd reccomend the path to others. Plus I'm still strongly considering building a new system for duel core and PCI-E anyway
